Lewis needs to understand to admit defeat when it's required so you can have at least damage limitation on your side for the next fight. He could of salvaged a decent points tally and he would of been behind Alonso by a few points rather than 23 now.

He should of taken a leaf out of Sebs book like at Canada when he admitted defeat to Lewis rather than try to hold him up: "Vettel knows the crack, that's why he is a double world champion, he knew I was going to get him sooner or later etc..."

Yet he didn't follow his own advice against Pastor.

I'm sure there will be people reading this and using the old "That's how Lewis rolls etc..." but isn't that the issue he had last year? not thinking about the bigger picture? The WDC is the big picture here for Lewis, not the podium.

I knew Pastor was going to sooner or later get desperate against Lewis and I really thought Lewis was smarter than that considering his past with Pastor that he is a moron on track and how well Lewis was doing up until now. If Lewis fails to win the WDC by a few points it will be because of this situation that he failed to step back and remember that Pastor is a plank and it's very likely he will not care about the WDC and will trade some serious paint if it comes to it.

It was Hamiltons first real mistake of the season (if it was really a mistake), a season where he's playing the consistent game pretty well. Got high hopes for a good GB race now, lower temperatures should suit the McLaren again, it had no right to be doing as well as Hamilton had it anyway.

Looking at the end of the race again I actually feel Lewis would have finished 10th or 11th anyway. MSC and co were gaining on him fast and he literally had zero rear grip anywhere.

I really can't see why people are slagging off Hamilton, Maldonado is supposed to be an F1 driver, not a banger racer. No driver should expect one of their competitors to cut a corner and ram them. (unless they are fighting Schumacher for a title)

Drivers fight for everything in the race, being a gentleman gets you nowhere, being smart however, gets you further, and that is where Ham, Sen, Mal, and others failed today.
    It is all about consistency.

After all these collisions, it is time for the FIA to give Maldonado a one race ban?

I think Lewis has been very good this year when it caomes to giving up a place when it's gone. However, there was 1 lap to go. He felt he could have held him off for another lap and gained valuable points.

Sooner rather than later means there is a reasonable distance to go, so why fight then. 1 lap to go changes everything.

Lewis did not make contact with Pastor, Pastor drove into the side of him. Nothing he could have done about it. If he had waved the white flag and just let Maldonado drive by everyone whould be saying he's lost his fight and is no good anymore.

In some people's eyes, he will always be to blame, no matter what happens.

As for a 'few' points behind alonso, he would have been 11 behind instead of 23 if the crash had not happened and Pastor went though,, or he would have been 8 behind if he had kept him behind. If you tell a driver not to fight at all for 3 points with 1 lap to go, they may as well not bother racing.

If some posters removed their head from their arses they may be a bit more subjective on certain issues involving certain drivers.

His top speed was good, he might not of stopped Schumacher or Webber but at least he would of walked away with 10 rather than 0. But then again Lewis had the same problem today Seb had at Malaysia, both failed to address the situation that the driver beside them is a moron and they should be extra careful around them.

No top driver likes to be bullied, but sometimes it's the smartest thing to do.

Heat related I wonder, pushing the engine to much? Something to bear in mind in future certainly, will they have to change how fast they shoot off at restarts.
