Joey Barton was handed a 12-match ban for his latest misdemeanour nullnullnullnull JOEY BARTON looks set to be thrown an amazing lifeline right out of the Last Chance Saloon. null The man Fabio Capello said was âtoo dangerousâ to play for England is expected to be given one final opportunity to mend his wayward ways with QPR. The Londoners considered showing him the door after a lengthy inquiry into his shocking behaviour against Manchester City in last seasonâs final game. But the legal cost of doing so â and his undoubted talents â mean that the volatile midfielder, who is banned from playing for a considerable chunk of the next domestic season anyway, looks likely to escape becoming an international outcast as well⦠for the time being. QPR are expected to pull back from the brink and give Barton his final public warning within the next 48 hours along with a move to curtail his Twitter outbursts which have also frequently landed him in hot water. Far-reaching legal strings are also likely to be attached to protect QPR from him repeating the sort of behaviour that got Barton a 12-match ban for violent conduct during Rangersâ 3-2 defeat by City. That was the latest blackspot in a controversy-littered career that started to go off the rails eight years ago when he was sent off for the first time, ironically at City. It was the beginning of a downward spiral that many feared would see him ending up as a global pariah this time. But thanks to manager Mark Hughes and the clubâs legal advisers the doors of that Last Chance Saloon look like staying open for a little longer for a maverick whose CV â crime vitae, that is â reads as follows: Fined six weeksâ wages by Manchester City after stubbing a lit cigar in the eye of a young team-mate at the clubâs Christmas party. Fined eight weeksâ wages and sent home after an altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan in Bangkok during a pre-season tour. Suspended after a training-ground scrap with Ousmane Dabo which got him a four-month suspended jail sentence for assault. He was also banned for 12 games by the FA and fined £25,000. Moved to Newcastle for £6million but within months was charged with common assault after a late-night incident in Liverpool and missed the clubâs New Year fixtures. Jailed for six months after admitting the charges. Banned again by the FA after punching Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen. Transfer-listed after a series of Twitter comments criticising the club. Branded the FA âOrwellianâ and in need of a âdrastic shake-upâ. Now Barton is understood to have made certain promises about his future behaviour. Whether he can keep them remains to be seen⦠some time around early November when his present ban expires. Hughes has promised several new faces at Loftus Road this summer and has already brought in Andy Johnson, Ryan Nelsen and Rob Green. Now he has Leicester defender Paul Konchesky in his sights for a £1m deal. Barking-born Konchesky, who was sold by ex-Fulham boss Hughes to Liverpool in 2010, wants a return to the capital and is keen on a switch to west London. The two-times capped England left-back could also be joined at Loftus Road by Manchester Unitedâs Fabio, who is set to move on a season-long loan. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/328576
Basically what I said on one of the other Barton threads then - 'Renegotiated contract maybe, clauses for not paying during suspensions, twitter ban etc. If we had to pay him off then he should be kept as a squad player. Much also depends on factors we don't know about such as his actual influence in the dressing room and how he gets on with others. Basically I'll support the clubs decision whichever way they go as they will be factoring in things that they have knowledge of and which we can only speculate about.' If the fall out was Tarbs going then that is a massive loss. However that is only speculation and the last i heard around March time was there was no issue between them. I'll trust the clubs judgement on that and would envisage he will stay.
I agree he should be kept, this was actually the only time he's gone wrong in his time for us (bar a spell of poor performances, although that can be attributed to pretty much every player <laugh) , although you wouldn't believe it considering the media outrage!
Objection your honour. This is mere supposition, no where within this text does any concrete evidence or confirmation from a third party exist. The lazy writer just mentions a vague ..." is expected to be given one final opportunity "...... Any post on this board carries as much validity as this story.
Simply put.........it would cost the club too much to get rid of this poisonous pillock. I wouldn't mind if he was a good player, but he's an average player and if we get Diakite and Faulin is fit, he won't get in the midfield unless MH changes his system or plays him on the right!! Really disappointed that Barton is still at the club!! We will live to regret it!!
That'll be ok till the next time. It's in his nature and he'll be the target of every on-the-pitch WUM in the game. It'll all end in tears and I hope it doesn't cost us in terms of team harmony and ultimately our top-flight place. I still get the feeling he'll be at West Ham either on loan or permanently in January...
This, except I would say " Really disappointed IF Barton is still at the club!!" Nothing official yet.
It's a bit ironic that this is brought up in the weekend we've lost one of our true greats, a bigger contrast in the quality and morals of the two would be hard to find...
I do strongly feel that characters like this can't be supported in football by being given infinite chances as it sets a bad example. I have no doubt that on his day he can be a great player because I've seen it but I'm not sure it's worth it and I'd rather characters like this to be wiped out of professional football.
If this story is true i think its fair enough. Joey Barton could still strenght our side and if this is supposed to be a final warning he knows where he stands. As trypsin wrote before it was the really the first time barton gone wrong with his time in loftus road apart of few bad performances. Anyway i think sparky knows what to do.
Joey Barton is not worthy to lick Alan McDonald's boots. If Big Mc had been in the same team as Barton there is no doubt he would have sorted Barton's issues out for him.
This report has a ring of truth about it. It always looked on the cards that employment lawyers would advise that Barton was given a final warning before termination of his contract. Realistically, I think the best we can hope for is that West Ham or similar comes in for him, and we pay his wages until November. If we keep him, I can see Hughes bi-passing him for selection, and Joey getting increasingly agitated on the bench - hence the need for Joey's undertaking not to make public statements about the club because otherwise, before we know it, he'll be undermining management just as he tried to do at Newcastle
I hope its made up, his last chance should have been about 3 incidents ago. Id love for us to ban him from making public statements about QPR if we have to keep him, theres no way he can do that so its an easy way out for us.
Well that's obviously a right fu*king wind up for a Sunday afternoon. Get your kicks outta taking the piss do ye?
