I thought up a footy bet and challenged a mag mate, who accepted in a flash.

I like a good challenge, so this, a kind of blind bet to an extent, is based on the fact that, at the moment, we are unaware of any pending player movement from either clubs and therefore, a leap of faith was needed before the bet was challenged.

    Nevertheless this is the deal.

1 - £20 on who finishes higher in the league.
2 - £1 (per goal) on the end of season goal difference between both teams.
3 - £1 ( per point) on the end of season point difference between both teams.

I wonder who will be the most confident - when we both have our full compliment of new personel ?

Used to have a fiver bet with a mag mate on who finished higher in the league. He never paid up once! Denied making the bet even though it was done 2/3 years running.
These mags are slippery buggers I'd advise you see a solicitor and get a contract drawn up in blood.
    Good luck

What was your point differential from 2010/11 to 2011/12 may I ask?

But its possible for a team to finish 20 points better than the previous year, yes. You did a 19 point improvement. Whilst im not saying we will its been shown that its not impossible. If we had got Ba instead of you I think we'd have finished higher

My prediction is we'll do alot better in the league next year and Newcastle will do alot worse and it'll be close

Not if you sign Keith Andrews you won't <yikes>. To be honest, any prediction right now is futile until we reach the end of the (currently closed) transfer window!

On the contrary if we brought in Andrews for free and sold Gardner for 5m which money enabled us to bring in a striker who scored 15-20 goals we could finish much higher

It's a good format but you best get a loan now, whilst the rates are low.

What striker do you have in mind? <laugh> Seriously, we over achieved last year, 99/100 you're not going to improve by 20-25 points from one season to the next, no matter who you bring in. And to be fair, the people you're being linked with at the minute don't exactly strike fear into top half teams.

Good luck with that. However football does not really work like that. £5 million will not find you a 15-20 goal striker. You would need to sell Sessegnon (15million plus) in order to do that. This assumes ES is not stumping up the cash anymore and you will have to sell initially to buy with some cash injection from ES

but like you said you over achieved last year, so why will we have to improve by 20-25 points to better you this season??

I guess the hope is, we made it this high, we can push on. Admit secretly we over achieved but tell prospective signings we are in the top 6 to stay. However, there is nothing stopping you, Everton, Fulham etc of doing what we did last season. We were lucky we caught teams out due to them being in transistion. Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea have strengthened or likely to get stronger to compete again. We will probably fall to 7th (I'd be ecstatic with that) and you may finish top 10. However this is all conjecture. Messi and Ronaldo could declare their love of cheesey chips and sign for you guys by August <laugh>
