I could have a big dent in my fictional bank after today. Black Caviar £900 win at 4/9 http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/132951-Betting-Lessons-%C2%A310k-at-risk?p=2958002&viewfull=1#post2958002 Lightning Cloud £100 ew at 10/1 Move To Strike £800 win at 13/8 Sea Moon £200 win at 7/2 (the 4/1 went whilst posting earlier)

You have to remember Jim Bolger is trying to sell all these 2 year olds, so his interviews about the likes of Dawn Approach are effectively advertisements.* I'm not saying Dawn Approach is or isn't his best ever 2yo, just saying I wouldn't fully trust what Bolger is saying*
I agree Shergar, the orignial statement about Dawn Approach was given to the Irish press and I trust what he tells them alot more than what he tells our press.
Well, IMHO, ante-post bets are one big reason why bookies are able to starting booking their Winter vacations in the Caribbean? It is very good business for them, and, if I've ever got anything right in horseracing, it is to very seldom bet ante-post. To each his own though, of course. Spent most of my working life abroad, so this kind of bet was certainly sometimes attractive, but nevertheless rarely indulged..........
Completely agree Jongleur...There is very rarely any value to be had ante post. From my days working in the industry ante post bets were by far the bookies most profitable market*
Away from the glamour of Ascot Jamie Spencer has decided to go to Newmarket, there has to be some significance in this if you can guess correctly who it's for. Royal Ascot for me today 3.05 Aiken 4-1 best bet 3.45 The Cheka 33-1 each way 4.25 Pepper Lane 50-1 each way (value of the day) 5.00 Anatolian 12-1
Morning, all. Went to old Ascot yesterday where one rubbed shoulders with the likes of King Philip, the legend of the airwaves âBigâ Alan Brazil, the lovely Amy Ryan and one of my all-time favourite horses of all time, dear old Advanced. I would love to say I won an old fortune but sadly I didnât. However, thanks to those very nice fillies Newfangled and Estimate, who both should go onto better things, it was a âbreak evenâ day for yours truly. I havenât had a proper look at todayâs action but wouldn't be surprised if the finish to the old Wokingham was fought out between Medicean Man and Alben Star. My more optimistic regular readers in search of a big pay day might even want to consider, I say consider, a Reverse Exacta re this pair.
Depends on what you bet ante post to be fair lads. I backed this years Arkle winner ante post at 12/1 so had a good return there..... But also lost heavily on Peddlers Cross for the same race and to be perfectly honest was a loser on the race. Also had a lot on First Lieutenant a 12's and 10's for the RSA. The placed payout wasn't really worth the effort although it was a winning bet when all was said and done. Cheers for the correction Boris et al about Dawn Approach. We'll have to see what happens today I suppose. If he has one in the yard better than Dawn Approach he's in a strong position when Godolphin come calling.
Saying ante-post punting is not profitable is ludicrous. It is no different, in principle, to any other punting. If you are betting at a bigger price than the horse should be then it is a good bet. If you aren't then it isn't.
My only antepost bet for Cheltenham this year was Finians Rainbow quel Thought he had no chance after he got turned over at Ascot. Usually have alot more on but have learned the hard way
After this cheltenham i decided not to bother ante post again. had a couple of winners from my bets but backing horses at a great price only to see them bolt up in a different race is frustrating beyond belief.
Morning Everyone, Have enjoyed a mixed Ascot this week, Fast or Free, Fallen For You and Estimate among the highlights betting wise, just about broke even I reckon. Todays dogs; Sea Moon 7/2 - Outstanding price if turns up on top form, seen a fair bit of Aiken and he could be improving enough to take this, but I'm of the opinion that people are underestimating Sea Moon's form both behind Masked Marvel in the Leger and St Nics Abbey, and also the comeback run which was entitled to be rusty. The Cheka e/w 40/1 - Bit of each way interest on a very consistent type who will run his race, but really want to see Black Caviar do the business to be honest. Gordon Lord Byron e/w 20/1 - Nice draw, decent form and good jockey have made up my mind in what is an awful race to solve. Not had any others as yet, but think Harrisons Cave will turn up and get at least a place, Kangaroo Court could go well at a big price (50/1 ladbrokes). Have a good day!
I wouldn't disagree, but punters clearly find it far more difficult to find value antepost, hence why the bookies clear up every year on it *
Im putting these up today. Fancy the first 2 strongly but the Wokingham is obviously a toughie. 2.25 Ayr - Celerina 2.55 Ayr - Baccarat 4.25 Royal Ascot - Mac's Power
Afternoon all. 3 for me today all each way. 2.30 Cruck Realta. Has ran well and won on the soft (staying on well enough to suggest the step up in trip will not be an issue) and 25s looks massive. 3-45 Krypton Factor - only ever out of the placings 3 times and 25s again looks very good indeed. 4-25 Gordon lord Byron - drawn well and is in great form at the moment so taken 5 places at 18s. Good luck everyone.
