According to a Dutch report... 12 million euros

    http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/4562/Voetbal...erhoogt-bod-op-De-Jong-Sparta-wil-Buijs.dhtml

Newcastle raises bid for De Jong
In the knowledge that Benfica also serves as a major privateer on the coast, Newcastle United's bid to Luuk de Jong increased from ten to twelve million. This brings the price of FC Twente, reportedly eighteen million euros, far away. The 21-year old forward has always said to prefer to stay in Enschede. FC Twente is the astronomical amount of approximately eighteen million to see the confident striker and hopes to all potential buyers scare. "It is clear that we prefer to keep De Jong, is the position of chairman Joop Munsterman today in AD Sportwereld.

Wouldn't really want us to go any higher than that, the 18 million euros they are asking for is extortionate tbh.

Hope so, heard mentioned earlier today that their asking price was £10 million.

    Nice avatar ACS.

If that bid is turned down we can look elsewhere and be pleased Ashley at least pushed the boat out on the De Jong bid.

9,5 million quid still isn't enough, 12 million quid should do the trick, like i predicted a week ago. Twente is asking 15 btw.
If they started with that figure they wouldn't have laughed their arses off in Enschede when they recieved the 8 million bid.
Mike Ashley made himself a bit of a laughing stock over here in The NL. First 8 mil for De Jong, then 5 million for Anita. We giggled here and did this:

It's 12 million Euros, not 12 million quid. 12 million Euros is around 9.5 million quid <ok>

You may have been laughing at the 8 million bid for De Jong, but I think we'll always have the last laugh with the paltry sum we paid for Tiote 3.5 million and wouldn't leave us for less than 20 now.

I'll give you that one, and it's similar to Vorm going to Swansea for 1 million. Clubs hit the jackpot from time to time, but the bidding if NUFC lately has been hilarious. Just read that Ashley was preparing a bid of 3.5 million for Alderweireld. if he does that, there's no way they are going to take him serious and show him the exit instantly.

I disagree, I think its the smart way to do it, why slap in a 15 million bid when you could start small, play hardball and potentially have the team settle at a smaller fee. Regardless of how small or "hilarious" our opening bids were, if we hit the right price range and tempt the teams enough they will always be willing to do business.

Total rubbish, a couple of weeks ago Benfica bid 8 million + incentives up to 1 million for Ola John. Twente said no, after that they tried again with 9 million + 3 million worth in clausules and they got him. It was a done deal within one week. Benfica have shown interest in De Jong aswell. If Benfica bids like last time, i'm pretty sure De Jong will play in Portugal next season.
