For those of you who are interested, we lost the first leg of the FA Youth Cup semi final to Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge. United were playing without Morrison and Blackett due to suspension, which is arguably like the first team playing without Rooney and Evra. And Chelsea had McEachran in the side who's knocking at the door of their first team. Chelsea were the better side in the first half, and deserved their 2-0 half time lead. I think we struggled a little with their packed midfield and good organisation. But we came back strongly in the second half, with good performances Lingard and Pogba especially, both of whom got on the scoresheet. Tunnicliffe made some good runs and had a good long range effort saved, but spent much of the game trying to keep McEachran and co quiet in the centre of the park. Most of the rest of the team were pretty quiet - Pogba was the stand out player for us and showed real promise for the future. We could have gotten an equaliser had we been more clinical in front of goal, and Keane in particular should've done better with four presentable chances, only one of which really tested the keeper. But Johnstone also made some top drawer saves to deny Chelsea. Overall, it seemed quite similar to the Liverpool match - Chelsea were more organised and better in the first half, but we rallied in the second half and got back into it with some good individual displays. All to play for in the second leg at OT on the 20th April. Cheers for the match report. Didn't see the game but still all to play for. It's useful to have players like Pogba in the team for these games as he's outstanding at that level. Are you sure Lindegaard scored though? I thought he was over age and would do well to score from between the sticks, especially given his injury situation at present
I watched that too, Keane was clueless and McGinty or something is an absolute animal. Pogba was United's best player by far.
Yeah, we have some outstanding individuals but some pretty useless dross as well. Fortunately all that matters at youth level is the individuals who make it through to the first team!
