That differs significantly from 'Hodgson is ruining our team', though. England is a generation removed from playing good football...better that he has them competitive, at least, where previous managers gained little in style or substance.

I actually disagree with the majority of the early posts on here. I didn't listen to the link, however I do have to express that I really haven't enjoyed England in this tournament. Someone wrote earlier "we won, who cares?" Well, I do. We are just creating another false dawn. When will English Fans realise that we don't develop players to play the game in the modern way, with technically strong as well as physically athletic players?

I really hoped that the end of the Capello era and a lack of expectation this time would lead the FA to announce that Roy Hodgson's job was to start creating the future generation and to do what the Germans and Spanish did. They wrote off tournaments and concentrated on developing young players technically over a period of ten years... they enjoyed success earlier than planned (or at least showed far better progression than originally expected).

I am an England fan and each tournament I drag out my flag, shirt and hat in hope, but knowing deep down that we suffer from the English Disease. It starts with kids. We teach kids to win football matches when they are 8, 9 and 10 years old through to 15 and 16. Winning is all that matters to coaches and parents at that age and it is the biggest problem in our game; it is the root of England's problems. I see it every weekend coaching my lad's team. Boys are taught to whack the ball forward to the big lad runs down the middle, quicker than the rest and stronger. to score the goal. That is not how the modern, international game is played. In our last two games we have given away possession so easily against a poor and an average team, because technically and tactically we play the game in a ancient manner.

Here we are now, having battled hard to get a point against France and everyone was surprised and delighted, then rescuing a victory from the jaws of defeat against Sweden and finally being gifted a win versus Ukraine. Everyone seems to be now "bigging" England up and suddenly believing that we are better than we are. We are not, and to me it is the same old England and the same old England fans.

We need to start again and the FA are threatening to do that with the changes to Youth football, but in my heart I don't believe that they'll be able to change the attitude of the kids' coaches and parents who stand and yell at the boys on a Saturday morning demanding a win and a medal for little Johnny!
