Watched him the last few seasons Burak Yilmaz was tipped for greatness at a young age, played at Istanbul giants Besiktas + Fenerbahce but only really made his breakthrough under Senol Gunes at Trabzonspor. Gunes was the manager who took Turkey to 3rd place in the 2002 World Cup. Yilmaz really developed into the player he is now under Gunes and Guus Hiddink who was full of praise during his time at the head of the Turkish NT. As for Burak Yilmaz, he's been the best striker in Turkey for two seasons now, tall, strong, athletic build, makes good forward runs, gets behind the last man and can finish. Style wise he is a good target man and uses his strength well, can play as a lone striker, really needs to be played as some sort of striker as he's not as effective on the wings. 19 goals season before last, 35 this season, 26 years old, £4m min.fee release clause, whoever signs him is getting a bargain. Obviously there is a risk when signing foreign players from leagues not on the same level as the Premiership however, the Turkish league isn't half bad and its been really developing over the past few seasons its a good time to snap players up. I'd say quality wise its around the level of Holland or Portugal.
Bloody hell! Cheers keyser! Knowledge!! Well at 4 million we'll have 2 of him, please!!! That goal record is worth a stab, even if he turns out to be a postiga or rebrov when he plays in the prem!
Morning PNP - if you recall, a few of us on the old 606 board were advocating getting Sessegnon 18 months ago before he originally left France. I remember posting a link to a YouTube clip which showed a player of quite exceptional ball skills. Not sure that he has ever hit those heights consistently in the PL (with Sunderland admittedly) yet and he would now cost substantially more than then, but I think that he would be well worth the investment. I agree that he would be more useful in the VDV role rather than an out and out fwd position that he seems to play currently.
Yeah, I remember his name coming up. I think that his progress in England has been hit by managerial changes, Steve Bruce being ****e and the struggle to find the right position for him. He seems to have had issues settling up North too, if the rumour mill is to be believed.
to be fair boss, the thought of green signing for us came with mixed opinion. some say we should be going for someone younger and long term, others think he's a decent keeper who we should have gone for. however you look at it, players are getting snapped up. There's been a fair bit activity over the last week and as it stands we don't even have a bloody manager! once again, we're going to be in the same old position of signing players right near the end of the window. only this time it's going to come with inflated euro prices. Oh, and in addition, those players we want (supposedly) are going elsewhere, right now. so we miss our targets.. again. I honestly can't believe Levy's sacked redknapp without having a replacement lined up. the weeks are just flying by.
Whoever signs Clint Dempsey... As for players with inflated Euro prices, there's a few I can think of who won't: Any player from the CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC or OFC regions Any player from a team that didn't qualify (i.e. Belgium, Serbia, Slovakia, Montenegro) Any player who didn't make the squads (i.e. Mateo Kovacic, Georginio Wijnaldum) Any players who turned out for Ireland
I still think Given might want to end his career with a decent side. I know he's not young, but he's still got a few years on grampa friedel Oh, i've also heard we are the boyhood club of robbie keane! Get in there! Top scorer for the international side and has played at some of the biggest clubs in europe.
watching Given at the euros i thought he had an absolute shocker of a tournament. Keane for all his flack is still doing it at the highest level...thats right i saw him in the Ireland top running around being pointy shouty man and doing not much else
i felt sorry for Given. I saw a couple of uncharacteristic flaps* but he wasn't helped by the fact that the irish defence was easier to part than, well, erm, Jordan's legs. * of the goalkeeping kind, although i am also referring to the central defenders in front of him as flaps
am just waiting for that "breaking news"......"AVB signs four year contract" as i'll be straight down my mates (who is a rangers fan) and hoping that malt whiskey will block out the images of avbs constructed touchline routine!
do you think this is championship manager Roo? you bring more potential transfers than all the papers put together!
just trying to work out who might actually still be available by the time we start buying, Dona!! 21 goals for Borussia M this season! surprised we haven't already been linked to him, yet!
