Judge for yourself mate - impressive, but not as impressive as Dancing Brave or Sea Bird (in my opinion)
Well I have seen them both in the flesh and although DB was great and is my wife's favourite (she never saw Ribot) he was a machine and, personally, I believe he would have been two powerful for the Brave. I also think he would have beaten Sea Bird but what a battle that would have been. But it's all opinion and conjecture isn't it. Good fun.
Dancing Brave is the most overrated horse I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong he was very good, but he was no were near the superstar is was made out to be.* His Derby defeat will always live in people's memory, yes he was unlucky but to overrated him on the basis of that defeat is somewhat ridiculous.* He beat Shadari in the King George by a lengh. Shadari realy wasn't anything special, and was at most a 126 horse.* In the Arc he won well *but there were no less than 6 horses within a couple of lenghs of him, these are the facts of the matter, and those that say it was the best Arc ever are talking out of there rear end. Bering was an average French Derby winner, and any Frenchmen would support that. Triptych was consistent but even Oh So Sharp beat her easier in the Oaks than Dancing Brave did.* There is nothing in his form that suggests he was a 140 horse, there really isn't, his opposition has just been overrated just to bump him up abit, the same as what happened with STS, as Fame And Glory and Rip Van Winle were just given super high ratings just to bump up Sea The Stars.* To think that the likes Dubai Millenium are rated below DB realy winds me up, Dubai Milleniuum would have blow his doors off over 8 or 10 furlongs. Shergar would have beat him 8 lengths over 12 furlongs, I just don't get the hype over DB, he was no superstar. Good horse, and average Arc winner, but that's about it * *
Here we go again - having a pop at Sea the Stars......... Since he retired his form gets franked left right and centre in the form of Twice Over and fame and Glory neither of whom ever got to lay a glove on him but have won an array of group 1s. I don't know how many French people you talk to about Bering but a lot of the experts say that he was a great French derby winner - still, they all talk out of there (sic) rear ends I suppose. Once again, everyone else on the thread speaks from a personal opinion and makes that clear - you try to pass off your own opinion as fact and when it's a horse that you don't like the ratings have been bumped up and where it's one you do like the ratings have been unfairly bought down..
KS, in 1986 Bering was considered to be(By the French racing journalists) the greatest French horse since Seabird and defeat for him in the Arc was seemingly laughable. So gets your facts right sonny jim!
Timeform think that Frankel is the greatest ever in the fifty year plus history of their rating system and their man did put up a creditable argument on the Morning Line. Much as been made of the fact that Frankel got within 0.69 seconds of the track record at Ascot. This is noteworthy since the ground was not fast and Tom Queally did not ride the superstar out to the line; however, the course record at Ascot is only seven years old as the records prior to the 2005 refurbishment were on a different course. If one chooses to ignore Excelebration’s performance (as he appeared to run below his form) the third and fourth are not Group 1 performers and it would be realistic to have expected Frankel to have thrashed them as he did. Frankel will step up to ten furlongs – in the Juddmonte International at York if not in the Eclipse Stakes before – to prove that he is versatile as well as a mile legend. Will they risk So You Think against the superstar? At the moment, Frankel is definitely one of the all-time greats but the jury is still deliberating about ‘The Greatest’ tag.
