I can't search for it because I'm on my phone but I started a thread on Tunnicliffe after the Posh game I was that impressed. He's the only opposition player I have started a thread on unless it's to call them a bellend so that says how much I rate him. Absolutely solid, good on the ball, neat first touch, a proper holding midfielder who sits and protects his back four. He puts his foot in as well as Koren could well testify, it's Tunnicliffe that knacked him. Always available and always wants the ball. Future England player IMO.
Spoke to some Peterborough fans and they said he was only there half a season and never maintained a prolonged spell in their starting XI and was ultimately a bit of a let down. Hopefully they were just bitter that they couldn't get him back and he will be as good as some on here seem to believe. I'd be worried about playing Keane and Chester whilst Hobbs is out, surely teams would target them if they had big, powerful forwards. I think I heard Keane is 5 ft 10, the same as Chester.
Time for Liam Cooper to keep up the good work of last season. Cooper and Chester did well overall. But i still would not rule out an experienced centre half coming in. Alot of our rivals look like losing there firepower so it maybe not as bad. As of now we wont face Sharp and Rodriiquez for starters. Others will also be missing from line ups.
Such as ? The only one i can think of was the first goal @ Millwall and i put that down to Vito who flapped at the cross. Of the other 5 games Cooper and Chester were a pairing City Won 3 drew 1 lost 1 @ west ham. Not bad for someone who had not played most of the season. You are far to harsh in that assessment, imo.
with you on that, Cooper needs more games, nobody is doubting his ability but you wonder with SB coming in, he may want some competition at CB so Liam will need to prove himself again..
I have no problem with that either. Look what having Joe Dudgeon did for Andy Dawsons level of play last season. Competition is only good for the team. As Bruce said, everyone starts equal so its now upto each and every player to show what they have got. No wonder the lads are buzzing. FIRST DAY BACK and all that jazz. Liam Cooper can be as good as he wants to be given a chance. He has had the chance and must now kick on. Its his shirt to loose, imo.
tunnicliffe didnt really stand out when i went down to pboro last season, thought grant mcann and george boyd looked good but as a young lad learning his trade. rated highly at united "He is a Gerrard-light kind of player imo....he scores too little though, but a typical hard-tackling box-to-box midfielder. And he appears to have a hell of a winning attitude - everytime United did poorly, he was always the one who took charge to get United back into the game" a quote from red cafe about him. i know michael keane alot of united fans nominated for reserved player of the year and meant to be technically gifted, sounds like another chester, can also play rb
Like I said, every single game after Hobbs injury. The Milwall one you mentioned, the Barnsley one, West Ham's first goal and I think the one Forest scored, whilst not being headed, did come from a poorly defended cross. We did well in that time but our defence was nowhere near as good as it was earlier in the season, hence we didn't keep a clean sheet in the last how many games? I like Cooper, I think he's a bright young prospect, but him and Chester as a pairing just didn't work. Maybe due to their combined lack of height.
Michael Keane's a ****er. Born 24 hours or less ahead of me and he's playing for Utd/City. I'm getting used to players being younger than me now, but when someone is that close to your age you can't help but think he's a tosser
cheers olm, i dint get that far down the thread on red cafe, but wasnt it mentioned in the hdm recently? this is what working nights does to you haha!!
Two great signings if true. Still think we need another older head (yet fresher than Mckenna) in midfield. Keane offers us CB and RB cover so thats two of our problems solved. Heskey in as the striker. Then all we are looking for is a winger? Preferably not a youngster, could be Elmohamady? That could well be the four Bruce said in the press conference, if not the players, definitely the positions. I suspects any further movement would come once Bruce has got his hands on the players. I'd like to see Ghilas and Olifinjana leave before then so that they don't even have a chance of staying.
