ITV commentary durin national anthems

If you follow me on twitter you will know that I hate the ITV commentary. But last night I was appalled to hear Clive Tysdley speak over the Ukranian national anthem which is incredibly bad manners.

to be fair to him, i think he thought their anthem had finished when he started to talk. he then stopped when he realised it wasn't the end. having said that, i tend to turn my ears off when he commentates

 

while on about the anthems, isn't it great to see every England player singing (or at least opening their months). for too long i have seen them just stand there looking like they don't want to be there.

 

He should at least do his research into the anthems and therefore be aware if there is a few seconds of silence. He should have definitely apologised though.

 

Not sure that they got the words right though. I am sure Rooney was mumbling Glory Glory Man United as he is more confident of those lyrics.

 

I too often sit watching wishing that several of them weren't there myself

 

I read somewhere that Roy told them to sing.

I cannot understand this lack of respect for the

even the ukrainian players stopped and started applauding, not realising there was more! i hate itv and tyldsley in particular but i really don't think he did a lot wrong - certainly not enough to kick off about anyway. laughed the other day when some england fans were moaning that the swedes booed our anthem - cos of course england fans have never booed an opponents anthem, have they... to be honest, i cannot stand our national anthem. its such a dirge! hardly surprising people mumble their way through it - never inspires me i have to say. just compare it to the italian anthem...

ours is boring and should be changed.

I like Clive Tyldsley he is far better than that shower of non entities now commentating for the Beeb! The best current football commentator in my view is Pierce but he seems to be constantly over looked, perhaps because he displays a modicum of football knowledge! All time greatest imo has to be Barry Davies! TWTD

 

Tysdley is awful. At least on the BBC they don't always state the obvious!

La Marseillaise has to be the best national anthem for me. I really dislike the English anthem, maybe because I'm a bit of a republican at heart. I remember getting the cane for singing the wrong words, I think I was told it was inappropriate to sing kill the queen

 

I'd refuse to sing the national anthem if I were an England player.

"God save our Queen"? Yeah, I'm just gonna gladly sing the praises of two of the most corrupting and oppressive institutions in my country's history.

 

Radio commentary always seems to be superior to TV although its success clearly varies depending on commentary team.

 

We need Chris Goreham commentating at the Euros!

 

All this pales into insignificance when you remember that ITV have Adrian Chiles as their main football presenter

 

If you aren't going to sing the anthem then why bother lining up. Personally I think they are a waste of time as sport degenerates into picking whoever is living there at the time as in the English Rugby or Cricket teams.
Just abandon the anthems then we don't have the embarrassment of watching loud mouth gits struggling to open their mouths other than the tiniest slit in pretense of singing.

 

No national anthems should be played before any football match, it causes aggression between certain sets of supporters. However as they are, ours is world class, for being the worst. If you believe in God, he said everyone was created equal, and you hear these numbsculls singing praise to one woman, and not the country, very strange. Apart from that it is an appalling piece of music, a total disgrace. Not sure who wants to watch 22 grown men singing this rubbish.
