I do wonder how some journalists see their articles. Providing honesty? - or what the paper buying morons want to read?
    Guy Mowbray scores - - Gerrard 9, Hart 8, Terry 8. - I find that just laughable.

One good season - YES, one good season where he became one of the most important players in the England national side too.

Arsenal fans overrate English players <laugh>

Most Arsenal fans don't rate English players because they are hyped and over priced you "plick".

I also thought Milner, Young and Welbeck's 6 ratings were very generous. He writes that Welbeck 'holds the ball up well' but that was precisely our problem last night, we didn't hold the ball up so Ukraine were dominating the middle of the park all night long.

Defending for dear life against an average Ukrainian team, does not justify any of our players getting beyond 6s. I was so bored that i turned over to the French game for a while....

As for overhyping England players, we don't do that very much on the Arsenal forum. The most you'll hear from some here, is some people overhyping Wilshere. That's down to him being genuinely skilled and better than most of the up and coming players in the England setup.

why is it that we often think our English 'stars' put together in an International will deliver reasonable skills, performance, intelligence and entertainment?
Most of the time it is just tedious, lacking in skill and looking as if they are new to the game.
    So frustrating.

england were incredibly boring. if i were a pundit at half time, i would have been slating them for all their worth.

i mean, come on. it wasn't spain they were playing, it was ****ing ukraine! hardly the world's most skillful team, yet england made them look like barcelona. i think most of that is down to hodgson's tactics though.

They play around world class/top foreign players, which make them look much better than they are. The biggest problem is bringing in managers like Woy. Instead of us changing everything and our approach, we've elected to play a negative type, Chelsea way. Do we really want us to adopt such tactics in the future? You bet your bottom dollar that if Woy gets to the Semi's, it'll vindicate this rubbish brand of anti-football.

We have to move forward now. We have good quality youngsters like Wilshere, OXO, Welbeck etc coming through and have to go the German way of things. We have to try and play football and not some park-the-bus style 4-4-2!

but even the basic ball control and keeping possession goes out of the window. I watched the UK rain almost stroking the ball around casually - yet we panic, hoof it or send it pounding at our players, who spend most of the time trying to get it under control.
Don't our coaches get across the key skill of making a pass easy for the next player to control?
They seem to think just aiming crudely is enough. I have issues with Wenger in some ways - but he sends players out who look comfortable with the ball - well OK, Squishy is the exception <laugh>

Thats the biggest problem BDM, they simply do not focus on this as much as pace and power. It also doesn't help when these technically deficient players start panicking on the ball. It makes for some wretched football at times. Our best midfielder on the pitch, Gerrard, has at best, average ball control. He makes up for it in pace, power and passing, but it's still shocking to see that average Ukrainian midfielders have better ball control.

It's not all bad news though, we have clubs like Arsenal and Southhampton teaching their youth players how to play the right way. We now have players like Wilshere and OXO who have very good technical skill. Hopefully this will spark a revolution in England and change things here in forward....

I would rather we played exciting & won all the time, but for now, I will settle for boring & win tyvm. Give Hodgson a chance to establish his team and for Rooney to shake off the rust before condemning them. Rooney was pretty crap last night, but he needed that game badly and will improve. I know he has never really set the match alight when playing for England, but he can still turn a result our way when fit and on form. All that said, I would like to see more of Caroll :)

As long as he is going for headers I don't mind either (as long as uefa don't fine him)
