"Steven Gerrard is asked to sum up Wayne Rooney's goal. "A tap-in."

    No arguments there.

Roy's just said they've exceeded his expectation. They certainly exceeded mine. I predicted them out at group stage. The penultimate nail is battered into the coffin of my psychic aspirations. I'm no Paul the octopus. Or the psychic pig...whatever that is called? Oh yeah, Russell Grant!

Gerrard was just awarded MOTM officially there. Another good game for him tonight. England's best player so far.

Johnson played well tonight, as did Carroll when he came on - lovely touch down to Oxo from the big man.

Great if Gerrard brings this sort of form into the premiership next season. Let's hope he can stay fit. Haven't seen him play this well for some while and after 3 games in 8 days it shows he still has the legs to compete at a high level.
Would be like having a new signing.

Yeah, I totally agree. Gerrard was our best player, but solid performances all around, really. I thought Young was better, but no where near as good as he can be. Milner was, again okay, but can play much better. Welbeck a little quiet. Other than than those little nit-picks, pretty decent, if a little flat, performances. We're looking nicely solid at the back - we just need to link the midfield up with the strikers a little better and we'll be a fairly decent outfit. As long as we now don't go to penalties in the Italy game, I'll be happy even if we go out.

Gerrard has had an assist in every game so far.

  10. Technically, no assist tonight. Gerrard > Welbeck > Rooney <ok>

The Italy game is going to be interesting! Down the pub, everyone involved!

  12. Well I didn't think we would get anything against France and we got a draw...

I didn't think we would beat Sweden and we won...

I didn't think we would beat Ukraine and we won...

My prediction for the Italy game... we'll get battered 3-1 <ok>

Yeah I wasn't sure what would happen. I thought it would be close agaist France but maybe lose.

I thought we'd draw against Sweden and beat Ukraine.

    Come on!!

  14. Looks like we have the hard route now though. Italy followed by (in probability) Germany and then Spain. If we win this thing (and that is an absolutely, gigantic, massive, hugh, enormous 'if') we will have bloody earn't it <ok>

    Italy 3 - 1 England <ok>

What? Welbeck didn't touch the thing. Skimmed one Ukrainian near the knackers, flicked off another's leg, slipped under the GK, and Rooney headed. So 3 Ukraine players got a piece of it, but no England player.

  16. I thought Welbeck had got a touch but just watched it back so fair point <ok>

    i hate the spanish.

and hats off to Roy..hes made your 35 million striker play to his strengths..however tnight..Roy should have started with him as the introduction of Rooney took away the fluidity in the last 3rd and Wellbeck's game suffered...and Andy did not have the time to settle in his role..this is the problem with England...they always pick names and then suffer..

Sort of agree with you. I think Rooney should of been subbed after 70 mins. He wasn't match fit - but however the only way to change that is by game time which he now has going into the more important game against Italy.

Carroll is bang up for it though that is true.

We won, and we did what was needed and I really don't want to rant but..... how bad has Young been these 3 games? 1 off game, I'd let him off, 2 ok thats not great but he's been decent this season but 3 awful games and that's it. He needs to be dropped.

Rooney looked well off the pace, and didn't seem to be able to run away from anyone. I thought he was quick so don't know if I was wrong or what was going on then. Defence were ok, still a bit shaky and got lucky with their goal.

Wellbeck didn't look great either. I might get slated for this but apart from scoring against Sweden, what has he done? He can't hold the ball up and hasn't taken anyone on and didn't link up with Rooney at all tonight.

We've done well and probably better than expected results wise, but the performances in the final 3rd have not bene good. 3 of our 4 goals have come from Gerrard (our CM) crosses which shows how bad the link up play has been up the top.
