As long as its not that pratt AVB then i could tolerate blanc and hope he turns out to be a top club manager but im not convinced as we have seen it all before, santini, ramos and i don't know enough about blancs personality to comment on how he would relate to the squad and the english game. My gut instinct is that on paper it sounds like a good appointment but I would be expecting him to fail.
At the moment what we need is someone who is media savvy but doesn't go looking for a headline, but gets on with the job. That's why Moyes or Blanc would be a better option than the media loving AVB.
You could say Blanc is an older AVB without Chelsea. Its a tough one, reservations on both for me. At last someone above has spotted its not about the numbers elsewhere, its adaptability to this weird league of ours that catches out many a good foreign manager. This is no time for obvious risk imo.
Didier Deschamps might be at the end of his contract with Marseilles - he's certainly media savvy, whilst he's adaptable due to managing in Ligue 1 and Serie A (as well as playing in France, Italy, England and Spain) so could be a decent outside bet...as long as he isn't angling for Blanc's job with the French team.
That HBIC would depend on what happens a bit later today doesn't it? I think France's performance against Sweden will show whether he is made of the right stuff. Deschamps I suspect prefers club football and is good at it.
Prefers club football, has experience managing big players, has got teams to play above themselves, and is out of contract at Marseilles? Levy!!!
Don't want AVB, but want Deschamps who lead Marseille to their weakest finishing league position for over 10 years? Something's not adding up.
Won the league in 2009-10, second in 2010-11, plus three straight French League Cups. Their league position isn't a surprise, given they lost five players, including three first teamers - notably Taye Taiwo and Gabriel Heinze at the back - on free transfers, so had to scrape together replacements on next to no money. That's the equivilent of Kaboul, Dawson and parker leaving for nothing, with no funds to replace them - yet they won a cup to qualify for the Europa League in spite of this.
