Ireland aren't as bad as their performances suggest, especially the amount of goals conceded. Truth is, they bottled it. Ranked 18th in the world I think and nearly always there or there abouts for the play offs. Considering football is no where near the most popular sport in Ireland, with a ****ty league system whilst lesser lights like Scotland laud it as their 'national sport' should tell anyone that we over achieve.
It's because of your ****ty league that you overachieve. Any of your decent players head to England. We're cursed with having to big clubs who can (used to anyway) be able to compete with the English clubs. Now we can't, you'll see a steady progression with our national side where we can go from getting humped in the quals to getting humped in the proper tournament.

Tbh Basketball is the most pop sport in Croatia and their pop is less than ireland. They make no excuses though
