Where will the 42 points plus come from this season.
I think that we really need to beat the three teams that have come up, home and away.
I hope that we can beat Swansea and Norwich home and away. I think these two are really important. Now that we have drawn them first two games of the season it will be important that we have a good solid pre-season. Hopefully we can get the players that we want in early and we are not playing catch up at the end of august like we did last year. I also think it will show what standard we are at.
I would like us also to beat Wigan, Villa, Stoke WBA, Sunderlad, Liverpool and Everton at home at least and maybe away. Fulham I would love to beat home and away but I have this feeling it won’t happen this season.
I hope that we should pick up a draw or two against last year’s top 6. Maybe get a win.
Every other point will be a bonus. But I am sure we might drop points as well along the way.
What was great about the end of last season was that we made Loftus Road a fortress. So we can have the confidents to beat all these teams.
I work that out to be 51 roughly. I am not sure if we will get top ten next year but I can’t see us fighting the drop again.

With Reading shelling out £13 million to land Pogrebniak and the Hammers linked with allsorts the promoted teams aren't standing still. We just have to win 8-10 home games and, ideally 5-6 away games. It doesn't matter who we beat as long as we end up with a minimum of 13 wins which should see us end up around the 50 point mark. Even with new signings it will be a tough ask...

You were told by Hughes that we won't be in the same position again. I believe him.

    What I hope for is
At home a near fortress....with two or three freak losses, the rest wins or draws
Away.... 4 or 5 wins, and same number of draws.

Comfortable mid table but with flutters every now of then of something greater

    Really silly article!!
Impossible to predict. However, I agree that we need to continue our home form from the end of last season.

The problem wasn't so much with wins last year , it was the inability to get draws , especially away from home . We won 10 games last year ( not many relegated teams get 10 wins ) , but only drew 5 i think , really is not enough, turn some defeats into draws and we will be fine.

Side note. Did not realise Pogrebnyiak up for grabs! What is going on at Fulham? Are we about to see an implosion?? Why don't we sign this guy? Maybe AJ coming is part of that deal. Sorry to hijack thread but I'm really surprised there is any talk of him leaving Fulham.

Not that silly. i am sure there are teams that we all think we will beat and team we will struggle against. fulhum for example is a great team to debate over. alot people think we will stuff them and get revenage. others look at them as a strong prmiership team who play in europe and think a draw will be a good result. i think this opens it up for people to say how they think the season will go. by building on saying we wil get a europe spot with out any thing to back it up. and so on

We will get points off the promoted teams. That £13M for Pogrebniak is just rubbish paper talk and the new owners trying to 'big' themselves up. Trust me they will be looking at Championship players or loans.
Saints do have a bit of money but won't be mad spending it all. Reading and Saints will be relegation fodder and I would be disappointed if we didn't take max points there.
West Ham will be the toughest of the 3 and hardest to beat as they have 'BigSam' and he knows the division well.

I think we need to not drop silly points at home to Norwich/Fulham/Sunderland/Villa. That's what cost us last season

He was only on loan, surprised Fulham didn't make it permanent but Reading, backed with Russian money, making statement of intent...

He was only on loan at Fulham. The Fulham lads were telling me yesterday that he drops in and out of games and maybe Jol does not think he is right?

I know fans are optimistic going into a new season. As a Newcastle fan I know anything can happen but 50+ points in your 2nd season after escaping relagation due to terrible refereeing decisions in the other game is a little too optimistic.

The signings of AJ and RN is hardly a statement of intent to push on through the 45 point mark, is it?

TBH, with your current bunch you'll be fighting the drop although the window is open for a while yet and situations change. Good luck

2 of the main reasons I hardly ever come across boards, you can never make a negative observation without being called a WUM or being verbally abused.

Everyone knows the window isn't official open yet but players can still be signed just not registered until July 1st.
