Think we need another striker to give us more depth as a squad, so this doesn't necessarily mean Ba will be sold.

Come on though, some people argue that Ba shouldn't necessarily be in our starting lineup as it is (if we continue 4-3-3) and as far as I'm aware De Jong is also an out and out striker, I really can't see him coming and sitting on the bench all season second fiddle to two first choice strikers.

    I could be wrong though.

Makes sense, country just knocked out of Euros so he'll be heading home and ready to be transferred soon.

As for the expenditure, here's my thoughts. Ashley will probably be expecting us to turn a profit this year, so spending a little extra will be possible without him investing anywhere near as much. Aswell as this, I do believe the FFP is coming in soon, and will get tighter and tighter every year, so it makes sense to invest our profits on bigger money signings now, to help maximise profits next year, and give us a bigger advantage when FFP comes into play. Just a thought.

Like i said, 11 to 12 million pounds will probably do the trick.

If you guys were to get him he would be a great addition to the club, but only if he's in a long term plan cause he will need some time to adapt to the English playing style. He has great technique, speed and strenght but his tactical insight and consistency still needs some development to get to propper EPL level. Mind you, he is 21 though, got a lot of time to imrpove himself.

I hadn't even considered this horrendous outcome...

    I have just jizzed everywhere.

Been reading up on a few different sites though and apparently De Jong can play in the LW role.

Move him and Ba around and that would be top 4 material right there.

We won't sign him. Too expensive, more likely Twente have 'leaked' our bid to get clubs fighting for him, meanwhile we'll walk away because it gets too much expensive. Debuchy is more likely in my opinion.

Right footed, can only play as ST or CF and only if really need on the right wing, but not preferable.
His technique might be good but i have yet to see him throw in a cross into the box in my life so, no, wouldn't put him on the RW spot.

That team lacks balance - has far too many attackers. Jonas is one of the key players for the team it's a shame if you cannot see that.

We could potentially be trying to adopt the Man City tactic. 4-2-2-2, the targets would make sense.

Debuchy and Santon as the two attacking fullbacks to make up for the width

Tiote + Anita as the two DM's

Ben Arfa and Cabaye in behind with Cisse + Ba/De Jong up top.

    Something to consider.

IF this is a genuine story and we ar making this kind of bid, then i am very excited about the show of intent.

I'd really love Ba to stay and he was vital to us last season. But I can't see him sitting on the bench happily week in week out. IF we get the likes of De Jong, Ba is likely to be the makeshift. But even if landing De jong results in the likes of Ba going, I think it would be a step in he right direction.

Think about the current club philosophy. We got Ba for free. He's 27 and may still have an underlying injury problem. Plus he will miss a chunk of the season if selected for Senegal (alongside Cisse). If we get a bid of £7m plus for him to release his clause, it's fantastic business. And if that money virtually pays for the likes of De Jong, who at 21 has plenty ahead of him, again, I think that's good business.

As I say, I'd love Ba to been playing at the Toon next season. But if the club is genuinely offering £8m for the likes of De Jong then that makes me feel better about the direction Mike is taking the club. As others have said, whether £8m is enough is yet to be seen - and I'm sure we're not th only ones interested.

BUT, I am feeling more positive about this transfer window already.

I know it was a very very unbalanced selection, but just think of that vs a weaker team where we don't need so much defence and can just go all out attack.
