He had a pint of Guinness once you know, that makes him Irish.

Loved it once watching a rather uneventful England match, which had Andy Townsend and Teddy Sheringham as the pundits. Teddy was very annoyed by the state of play and Townsend must have been doing his nut in cos he called him a fake Paddy live on telly.

I quite enjoy listening to mick commentate, says it how it is and makes me laugh. Don't understand people's hatred of him the guys a legend. I'd much sooner hear "that big girls blouse needs to stop whinging and get up" than "there was minimal contact, he sure went down easy"

Same story with him time and time again I'm afraid. If he isn't getting sent off, or causing controversy, he's scoring brilliant goals. He's definitely a character alright.

My point was more how biased he was. There was the perfect example when he had a massive rant about the Italian wall inching forwards and yet when the Oirish did EXACTLY the same his silence was deafening. You could almost hear the words stick in his throat when he had to admit that Balotelli was actually fouled and the non-given handball from O'Shea was the most blatant ever.

Precisely - you can never see him just having a nothing game. Yeah he's an idiot but I love him.

Lawrenson said 'we' the other night when commentating on the England game.

What do you want Mick to be, non biased? No true football fan is not biased, any game of football going on in the world i am biased towards one of the teams. He is honest, and tells you how it is, better than half the mickey mouse commenators you can get. Have to admit not having Gary Neville analyse anything at the Euro's has shown how poor some of the punditry is. I think Hansen is good for defending as he clearly knows the positioning etc well.... bar him all the BBC guys are good guys but no in depth analyse on tactics etc...

Yeah basically. He's paid to co commentate, not support a team. Or alternatively have one from each side on there.

Alan Green on Five Live is the worst, he has an Englishman delusion. Lawro and Mcarthy should just admit they are English and were flying the Irish flag of convenience

He's the worst pundit ever. Just repeats everything over and over again. They should have Deano on MOTD!

I think Mick has some right to be pro-Ireland as an ex-manager, otherwise I thought he was OK last night. It's not as if the Beeb can afford to hire commentators from all sixteen countries to ensure equal bias!

The broadcast was to the Irish/English, so had an Irish bias. The Italians won't have had an Irish bloke on their broadcast, it will have been exactly the same as ours but in reverse. It's standard practice and perfectly understandable.

When Jonathan Pearce was on channel 5 he was the most biased commentator ever. "Come on England" and "Get in there" being among his milder comments

Shame we cannot bring back the legendary pundits Brian Clough - Derek Dougan and Malcolm Allison. <whistle> Now they did say it how it really was. No fudging at all. Anyone know a good medium by chance ? ;) :emoticon-0116-evilg
