Forcing myself to accept for just a moment the crazy money world of football I'm not suggesting in this situation it is unreasonable. Just trying to gauge the 3.6M difference in price tag?
Yeah when you look at the money paid for Powell, not suggesting they overpaid as he is a class up from Gazza, and is much younger, but it does feel like Gazza is being stolen from us at that price.
I suggest that it is all risk based. Powell has probably been watched for a long time at junior level and his progression watched clearly. Paulo is new on to the scene and therefore carrys a significantly higher risk... Also perhaps he isn't as good as we all think his is?!
( I would love Gazza to stay ) but if we were to sell him for, say, £500,000 + add ons and if we get (about) the same from any sale of Matt Jarvis ( amount is a guess ) - we would have a very tidy sum of money to address the more problematic areas in the side. (Flitney should be OK in goal) ps - can I also add that I have obtained absolution from my local priest for my messing about yesterday. ( can't promise it won't happen again )
as i mentioned before goal keeper to striker!! theres a lot of the difference, camp to prem teams, theres a bit more!! unfortunatly you wont ever hear of a goalkeeper going for 50mil no matter how good he is unlike a goal scorer, especially a young one!! however there still isnt 3.6mil different
He's worth more then that but if he's going to posh the add on's should make up for that! unlike bertrand who we will probably never see any more money from!
We have to remember no fee has been agreed. it would be stupid of peterborough to start with a an offer close to what we want. A clever negotiator starts low which they have and then they will work towards what Gills would see as an acceptable price. They have thrown 400,000 as a starting offer, I imagine if he is sold we will be looking at more towards the 800,000 mark, however I would accept that if they agree to perhaps loan us a player or two much like what happened with the Jackson deal.
I doubt we'll get that Gemini! If they are willing to pay anywhere near what we're asking for surely he'd be a first team player for them?
good news brb, unless somene else comes in for gazza, it looks like we may well keep him for one more season at least ?! peterborough have just signed torquay's keeper bobby olejink for around £300,000 on a 3 year deal and he will compete with a young keeper they already have in joe day. lets hope thats the last we hear of gazza going for this season at least !
You realise that if Gazza messes up next season, I'm going to be the new whipping boy round here. It will be Hereford all over again - lol
Now Peterborough have got the Torquay keeper they don't need Gazza, that would be greedy, two top keepers from League 2, hope this all goes away now and he is our keeper next season. I am sure they were after another keeper who is in League 1, can't think who but I know there was 3 mentioned at the time.
lets hope the gills can get him to sign a new contract some time soon, or he will be a free agent at the end of the season !!! p.s. brb don't be so hard on yourself
Apparently bbc radion Kent had an interview with Scally this morning about Gazza. Did any one catch it? I believe it was on 7:30 & 8:30
Gemini - just spoken to Radio Kent, will be available to listen to again from mid-day onwards at bbc.co.uk/Kent under the heading 'listen again'. As I understand it you need to be listening to 90mins & 150mins. This link might take you there if not it will direct you in the right sort of area...http://www.bbc.co.uk/radiokent/programmes/schedules/2012/06/19 - remember though not until mid-day for the listen link.
brb - you'll have to wait until July for Hereford's fixtures. If any of their games are on a Tuesday evening I will be able to give you a lift - we've got enough long distance mid-week games in the general direction of Wales.
if you were to go on to youtube, gazza has a compilation of his best bits "paulo gazzaniga 2012 gfc" and maybe to put him in the shop window !
birmingham have just turned down a bid of £6m from southampton for jack butland, based on the fact he has only played for cheltenham in our league and obviously being included in england's euro 2012 squad as 3rd chioce has bumped his value up...i would say paulo gazzaniga is worth as much as butland or at least £4m then !!! thoughts ?
I think the reason why Butland is so highly rated is because he is English and if you get called up for England your price goes sky high.
Are you having a laugh? £4m?! If Gazza goes in the summer we would be lucky to get £500k for him. Yes he has potential but he has only played half a season of first team football.
