Everyone must be pleased with our opening fixture, its a home game at last, and straight away we can get some kind of idea of how we might shape up against the best in this division, as Blackburn will be one of the favourites to be promoted.
dont know if this game will tell us much really Blackburn have been in such disarray that their season could go either way.
Looks like a tough first couple of months to me, perhaps may be good to get some of those games out of the way with before the clubs find some sort of form!!
Not being a season ticket holder anymore, for the first time in 25 years, I have picked a 8 home games and funnily enough that includes Blackburn! I see we have Watford Away and then Blackpool Away quite soon after so I think by the end of September PJ will be packing his bags!
Supers, I dont think its quite that simple to be honest. You look at the lack of funds there last year and the lack of proven talent in their squad and I, at least, found it quite frightening. For example, without Yakubu they didnt have a recognised goal scorer, Pedersen has been hit and miss for a couple of seasons and the rest of talent is mainly in terms of potential. I was actually amazed when I saw how far the quality of the team has fallen over the last few years. He may not be the best manager about and he did make mistakes but I think it would of been an impossible job to keep them up, especially when the owners went from promising to sign Ronaldinho to going and actually signing... well no-one really. A bit like the town situation - he cant prove his own worth due to the off field rubbish surrounding him
i agree with you that he had an impossible job on his hands. i initially defended him against the vitriol rovers fans showed him but the more i read and the more i listened, the more i realised what an arrogant and ignorant man steve kean actually is. i changed from feeling very sorry for him to thinking he's a prize turnip. the owners are the main problem up there but he's not far behind and the fact he's still in charge says it all about what's going on! they won't be anywhere near the top of the championship next season unless there are some serious, serious changes.
Supers - agree that some of his comments came across as arrogant and pretty stupid but I still have that slight feeling of pity for the guy just because their fans seem to think he should of got that squad to something like a top 10 finish. I do agree that they are a looking a shambles and I have to agree with JWM in the fact that I dont really care too much about Blackburn and getting the points are a lot more important.
We have got a pretty difficult start compared to last season so I only hope that we get the decent players we need in order to compete. Blackburn will be a hard test and we all know what happens when we play Watford.
Yes it does look a pretty difficult start but I've always thought its better to play the better teams early on because everything seems to go out of the window at the start of the season, noone really gets into a groove!!
i only really know one blackburn fan so its difficult to gauge how they all feel up there but he's never once wanted a top ten finish. their club won't move forward until the venky's and kean have vamooshed
We can't afford to lose the first home game against Blackburn, we don't want this to set the tone for our season. Yes 1 game arguably doesn't matter so early in the season but after getting thrashed by Millwall at the end of last season a home win straight off is what's needed!
To be fair we did win 3-1 in our first game last season! Hopefully we'll get a decent result and take advantage of Blackburn's situation.
With the teams coming up and down I think I counted 17 away games within reach for me next season. Can't wait to get started! As for Kean, he was never qualified to take the Blackburn job on in the first place but he is the owners' puppet. The owners are clueless.
