Train collision kills cricketer Press Association*â*1 hour 17 minutes Surrey cricketer Tom Maynard was the son of former England and Glamorgan batsman Matthew Maynard Surrey county cricketer Tom Maynard has died after he was hit by a train in the early hours of the morning. The 23-year-old, who was widely tipped as a future England international, was struck near Wimbledon Park station on the London Underground District Line shortly after 5am. The Cardiff-born cricketer was the son of former England and Glamorgan batsman Matthew Maynard. It is thought he may have been trying to escape police shortly before his death. Officers tried to pull over a black Mercedes, which was being driven "erratically", an hour before Maynard's body was found on the tracks. A Met Police spokesman said: "At approx 4.15am on Monday, 18 June, officers stopped a vehicle after it was seen being driven erratically in Arthur Road, SW19. The male driver of the vehicle - a black Mercedes C250 - made off on foot. Officers were unable to locate the man. At approx 5.10am the body of a man fitting the same description was found on tracks near Wimbledon Park station." The force said it was still trying to identify the deceased man and the Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Police Complaints Commission have been informed. London Ambulance Service medics were called but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Surrey County Cricket Club chairman Richard Thompson said: "Our thoughts at this awful time are with Tom's family and friends and all those that were close to him. Tom Maynard was a prodigiously talented young batsman who had made an incredible start to his career and was clearly destined for far greater things." England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke said: "Tom was a player of enormous potential who had already represented England Lions and had an exciting future ahead of him. Our hearts go out to the Maynard family for their tragic loss and we send them and all Tom's many friends and colleagues within the game our deepest sympathies." Sometimes DT, you can be in pretty poor f****** taste. Shame 'cos i thought you were better than that and i've lost a lot of respect for you.
It's a cricketing term used by the fielding side to claim a wicket, usually LBW. If they think the ball is going to hit the stumps they will yell " Howzat? " to the umpire.
What because a thread has started about a man that died and happens to be a cricketer ... If i was to release threads about people who die the database would blow up ... Half of you didn't even know who he was ... I certainly don't would it make everyone happy if i added RIP ? Using the term Howzthat after a comment from swords that he was running away from the police isn't disrespectful about a human being ... it's a cricket jibe or joke made against a previous comment. I also spelt the name Howzthat in direct reply to the statement posed by Swords ... If i had said Howzat then of course that's unforgivable. Who even knows if you do rest in peace? ... This man may burn in hell (another silly saying) afterall the story is not known ... if it comes to light he had committed a horrible crime then would anyone change their wishes? ... we don't know anything apart from the fact that a little known man that played cricket is dead following a reported police chase ... happens every day in India
Please don't insult my intelligence Dave, you were trying to be funny/controversial and just came over as plain bloody insulting !! Shame on you Dave, i used to have a lot of respect for you, now i just think you're a c***.
This happened before when the Bolton player collapsed with a heart attack and Oddball said something ill-advised. Maybe he just mis-judged the mood again?
No problem and absolutely no attempt to insult anyones intelligence ... it is in fact a funny comment made directly after a Swords comment ... I have also stated my firm opinion openly and honestly and not afraid of that. I stand with it in fact ... its the way i see it ... did the same after the Bolton player went down ... You have a forum its about opinions if you want to call me a cnut no problem.. its not going to effect very much is it? ... maybe a few more people may agree with you or agree with your post ... I don't its really that simple ... I wouldn't go along and say anything just to be seen to agree nor would i say anything just for the hell of it . I doubt if i will think of the cricketer again much in my life if i am honest ... If you do fair play to you. Maybe in a few months you may feel guilty about being rude and aggressive to a fellow poster regardless of his or her views.
