"I'd hate to live with a superiority complex that meant you were always disappointed"

I'd hate to live with an inferiority complex. But I'm English so I don't. How good is that?

"For every footballing nation with less than 5 million people you can pull out, there are plenty with larger populations that are doing hee haw."

    Spot on, China, India anybody?

Scotland has been playing football longer than many other nations, and had strong clubs in Rangers and Celtic, which is why they qualified regularly for major tournaments (aided by their best players getting experience in England).

Now other nations have caught up.

The fact remains that no other nation has qualified so regularly at major tournaments and flopped so badly.

Name me one other nation that has qualified so many times for World Cups only to fail to reach the knockout phase.

I dunno - not something I know offhand but I'm fairly sure that there can only be a handful of countries with a population of under 5 million that have qualified as often.

There are 10 Englishmen for every Scotsman.

Unless England reach ten times as many tournaments as us, the comparisons you are clearly making are redundant.

If Scotland tries to compare itself to a neighbour with ten times the population in footballing terms, it will fail.

Germany has just over 50% more inhabitants than England yet they have a whole lot more than 50% more medals than England.

Spain has a smaller population than England yet they are much, much better just now and have won the same amount of World Cups as England and one more European Championship.

There are 20 million Australians versus 50 million Englishmen. I'm sure England have won 250% of the sporting accolades the Aussies have won.....

London always spouts pish about how it's a big city.

It's taken you lot 45 years to equal Glasgow's European Cup tally.

...and we didn't steal the Russian people's natural resources to do it <diva><nufters>

Forest won it with less , even with the 1/10 difference Scotlands European club record is poor to Englands , was man on the moon when Celtic won their comfort blanket , Jesus that must stink now .

If you lot want to talk numbers we can do so , average attendance for clubs , even for Scotland under the Vogts era , Faroe Islands anyone ?

Per head of population, the Scottish leagues are the best attended league in Europe.

If you want to talk numbers, England has ten times Scotland's population yet has not qualified for 10 times the tournaments.

    Average attendances?

Weren't the England support drastically outnumbered against tiny Sweden the other night?

It also can't be good when a Messi-sized player like Charlie Adam is at a team like Blackpool, that plays its football on the ground, only to be expected to hoof and head for Scotland.

Scottish leagues ? No you mean one game a week that dramatically changes the % of it as many fans come from the north and the republic , England's leagues are supported all the way through .

Hibs , hearts , Aberdeen and dundee united get woeful attendances , compared to similar sized cities in England , you simply are not a football nation , or you are simply crap at it and fair-weather fans .

Your cup finals do not even sell out in your national stadium where both teams ate from there .

Whilst you state the scots support their league the most it also a contentious issue as in England there is also league and union , so maybe look at the total number of people going to sporting events , one thing is for sure Scotland have not been too many recently .

is this now or then concerning attendance , monaco would beat yours .

How can England qualify for 10 more tournaments ? Pray tell .

The English simply have not gone to this tournament , many reasons , you point in there being more Swedish than English there is ?

To be fair the SFA Cup Final did sell-out, but look at the Scottish League Cup Final attendance - 3,000 fewer people went to that than to the League One Play-Off Final in England.

During Euro 96, both Holland and Switzerland brought more fans than Scotland to Wembley. And the Scots were outnumbered by both nations at Villa Park

We sold out our allocation - tickets were exchanging for crazy prices.

When we played both the Dutch and the Swiss we had 3 ends of Villa Park.

Does that mean that fewer England fans didn't take up the briefs for the Dutch and Swiss games?

    Desperate.

    Away and enjoy your tournament.

I was at England Scotland and England Holland and the Dutch had far more fans than the Scots. they had a third of wembley; how they got tickets I will ever know.

And even a sweaty mate of mine says he was amazed how many more fans the Dutch had at VP.

The Dutch had a fantastic following in the 90s

Two Scottish clubs average over 25,000 , 17 English clubs do .
Two Scottish clubs average over 20.000 , 26 English clubs do .
Two Scottish clubs average over 15,000 , 39 English clubs do .
Three Scottish clubs average over 10,000 , 47 English clubs do .

You sort of see my point here , people do not go to football in Scotland .

The quality at the very top , not sure in fact not sure all the way through , the one thing I do know is it's supported all the way through down to the 5th tier unlike any other nation on Earth , I would love to see all the attendances per capita down through the leagues and my money in fact all of my money would be on our leagues system being the most supported .

The English go to the games top to bottom the Scots don't , there is no argument to that , they should stick to eiephant polo or tossing the caber .
