The bit linking league position with 'racism/fascism'. Firstly, there's always been a racist contingent at Leeds from the 70s till today without much interruption. Secondly, since racism as we know it has been around in this country, Leeds have not predominantly been a 'lower league/bottom half' club. I'd link it with areas where there are large numbers of white working-class people who attend games and live in predominantly segregated communities.

However when it comes to football the profile of the teams and their standing in the tables plays a significant part in their racism/fascism (as well as general hooliganism and thuggery For example Stoke worked very hard to change some of this when getting promotion to the EPL and the impact that had on the game generally, same applied to the likes of Chelsea etc I actually have seen the abuse given to england supporting BME fans (as part of the Kick racism out of football campaign) during an under21 tornament at teh Brittania stadium. They had to be escorted out by police etc some as young as 12 This kind of thing has never happened to me or those with me at UTD or LFC etc

No proof provided that league position has any link with racism/fascism/'thuggery'. Man U and Liverpool have two of the most violent fanbases in the country when you look at arrest numbers. Look at the ratio of attendances:arrests and I'll bet you there's **** all difference between clubs in any division, from top flight to seventh. Likewise racism and fascism. How on earth political beliefs can be linked to the success/failure of a football team is beyond me. Like I say, it's all about whether races are segregated or integrated. Generally, Northern cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke and Leeds are places where different communities are divided. Hence racial distrust is rife and you'll get comments like '**** that Paki bastard' and the 'town full of taxis' chants etc. Has nothing to do with eleven men booting a ball on some grass whatsoever. It's not about league position. It's merely the fact that its football. Let's face it ... not all football fans are racists/sexists/homophobes/etc, but there's a frighteningly higher proportion of those within the demographic of people who are hardcore football fans than you would expect. You only have to look at this place with a critical eye to recognise that intolerance and general scumminess is rife. It's inherent within football.
