United sold David Beckham to Real Madrid for £25 million pounds, the years have flown by, he was excellent for us and one of the reasons why we won the treble, he was a key player for us and in his prime he was a world class player.
I am not sure why we are talking about Beckham now. But (rising to the bait) I do not think he was a world class player in the same sense as Messi or Ronaldo are. Having said that, He was/is world class in terms of fame and IMO United sold him TOO cheaply at £25 million. His value to Madrid at the time was more than double that!
Don't you think that you are saying that we sold him too cheaply because of the inflated prices we hear about now a days? Back then, 25 million was big and we got a good price for him.
Alan even then he was worth at least £50m as an asset. I recall reading back then that Real could not believe it when they found that united were only asking £25m and were jumping for joy. It was for them a no-brainer. They got world wide coverage and support and would be quids in even if he was not successful on the pitch. I remember thinking "useless negotiators at united. They were so desperate to get him and yet our club didn't recognise that."
Probably because he says john merrick in the film, you are right though his name was joseph, or matthew
