can see vettel getting this one. just have a feeling. just a question, is this the first time we have seen the medium tyres? i don't think it is but thought i might as well check
Does anyone else think that if turns 12, 13 and 14 were replaced by a fast, double-apexed right-hander, that we'd see a bit more overtaking?
copy and paste of my post from the muzz606 thread Autosport point out a good point. I like many had expected Mercedes to at least be on the front row, due the DDRS and the fact that its a straight line performance type of track. What I had not taken into account is that it is entirely because it is a staight line performance tyupe of track track that the DDRS became less effective. Because its a low drag track most cars had skinier rear wings anyway so the gain from DDRS was always going to be reduced. Valencia is of course a higher downforce track and much more akin to Monaco than Montreal, requiring higher downforce and good traction, and it will also reward DDRS more than Montreal. Mercedes had the best car for Monaco imo and they should have got a 1 - 2 finnish given the pace. Schumacher actually got the pole at Monaco so its not unreasonable barring more bad luck he could win in Valencia and Rosberg could make the podium again.
The mediums were used in the first four grands prix, they were the option compound in Malaysia when the hard tyres were used, and primes in the other three. Good point, Valencia is pretty low downforce though because of all the straights. If they're running more wing and gambling on qualifying pace they should be pretty strong. I think the temperature will play into Red Bull and Lotus's hands. Usually what I think turns out to be wrong though this season.
Really this should be a Red Bull or Lotus victory, but I've gone for Alonso as Ferrari are bringing several updates to Valencia and are aiming for pole position.
I think it will be Vettle but I would like to see a Lotus win, hopefully Kimi! Failing that JB has got to get a result here or his season is pretty much over!
Is it anyone's turf? From previous races it looks like those in the best cars get the best results. Vettel dominated the last two races there because he had dominant cars. He was 6th in 2008 but then so was Alonso in 2009, and the R29 was worse than the STR3. So overall I don't think anyone shines there.
Despite not winning any races here I think Hamilton has scored the most points here with 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 4th.
If Mercedes do **** and are not in contention with Mclaren and Redbull in Valencia, they can be called a one hit wonder for the early part of the season.
Shame Le Mans couldn't have been next weekend, could have watched that instead of this annual snoozefest.
with not much talk about Mclaren, i thought that i might mention 2010 there would have been a good battle between hamilton and vettel had hamilton not overtaken the safety car abnd got a drive through penalty. he did not have a good car for monaco that year either (a track similar to Valencia) and still managed to get second place here. i think its a battle between Vettel and Hamilton
