Should he start? Or should he be kept on the bench? If he starts, how will that effect personnel and tactics? What would you do?
I think you have to leave him out, both forwards scored and Englands record is better without Rooney than it is with him. Change it if we need a result with 30-40 mins to go.
A good question. I liked the inclusion of Carroll this evening and think he's necessary for the Ukraine game too. I also liked the pace of Walcott and think Young has been pretty terrible in both games thus far. Despite his goal today, I think if Rooney starts then he has to replace Wellbeck. Even though he scored, I preferred Defoe to him. But, what do I know? Nuthin'
He needs game time before (hopefully) we play a quarter final. Rooney always takes a bit of time to get back to his best after a lay off. Play him instead of Carroll, in behind Wellbeck.
Spain made over 800 passes last night. The only way England could make that many is if they enter Wayne Rooney on Mastermind.
I don't think we should leave out the one outfield player we have who would have a chance of getting into the squads of the top teams. He'll play.
Never was a truer word spoken. Still, did you see them last night COL? As sh*t as Ireland were, Spain were devastating. The only way for England to avoid them is to give Ukraine a spanking in the last game and top the group because Spain will top theirs.
A bit of a conundrum this one. Carroll and Welbeck played well tonight, it would seem a bit unfair to leave any of them two out. Ashley Young on the other hand was poor, but maybe Roy would like to go with a United trinity up top.
I'm not saying for one minute that England are in the same league as Spain.......but they are beatable and I fear it will be them for England in the quarters!!
Ok, I think we agree that Rooney will start, and rightly so. Who will get to start with him? I'd go for this.......... -------------------------------------------------------------- Hart------------------------------------------------ ----Johnson------------------Lescott-------------------------------------Terry-----------------------Cole Welbeck---------------Gerrard--------------------Parker--------------------Young-----------------Ox ------------------------------------------------Rooney----------------------------------------
That has Wellbeck out of position!! He'll play Rooney in behind Wellbeck with Milner and hopefully Walcott each side of Gerrard and Parker!
Ok this... Defence as read.... ---Milner------------------------------------------Gerrard -------------------------------Parker-------------------Walcott ------------------------------------------------------------------Rooney------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------Wellbeck-------------------------------------------------
I'd like to see this, fluid up front. Where Rooney likes to be I think: -------------------------------------hart-------------------------- johnson----------------lescott------------------jagielka---------------cole -----------------------------gerrard---------parker---------------------- walcott---------------------------rooney----------------------welbeck ----------------------------------carroll------------------------------
If Woy thinks Jones can do as good a job as Parker I suppose he might, but otherwise I think his only consideration ought to be ensuring we get into the next round and winning the group if possible, and for that he has to play his best team.
It would be a brave (and probably a bad) decision by Hodgson to leave out Rooney. Milner must make way for Walcott. Young is not doing enough to be retained.
