London 2012 bosses LOCOG have revealed the exact route that the Olympic Torch will take when it visits the borough on Thursday, July 26.

And Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Council has announced that it will be holding a celebratory event for all the family at Fulham's Jerdan Place to welcome the Torch.

Lit in Greece, the Olympic Flame arrived in the UK last month and is currently weaving its way through the country on a 70-day Olympic Torch Relay.

The Olympic Flame stands for peace, unity and friendship. It will be carried by 8,000 truly inspirational torchbearers.

The Torch will enter the borough from Kensington and Chelsea at around 1pm on Thursday, July 26, travelling west along Fulham Road and through Fulham Town Centre.

To mark this once in a lifetime occasion, the council will be hosting a free event at Jerdan Place from 11am to 3pm. The event will include food and market stalls, music and performances.

It will then travel up North End Road before turning right onto Hammersmith Road and heading back into Kensington and Chelsea.

The torch will then re-enter the borough via Holland Park Avenue and travel around Shepherd's Bush Green to the site of the 1908 Olympic marathon finishing line in White City.

It will complete its journey through the borough past Loftus Road Stadium and return to Shepherds Bush Green on its way to central London.

The torch is expected to have left the borough by 4pm.

Rolling road closures will be in operation to ensure that transport disruption is kept to a minimum.

Cllr Greg Smith, deputy leader and cabinet member for residents’ services, said: " I am sure that Jerdan Place and the streets of Hammersmith & Fulham will be lined with hundreds of people to welcome the Olympic Torch.

"The Torch visits the borough just one day before the start of the Games so it really will kick off a fantastic few weeks for London."
