With 'Arry gone http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2158966/Harry-Redknapp-forced-Tottenham.html and Moyes the favourite to take over, is this a good time to be making a move on Steven Pienaar ? Kyle Naughton is another who comes to mind. I'm assuming, although the fans seem to appreciate him, because of the way Levi treated Jol before there's no question of him returning. However do you think he might still have some insider knowledge that could be to our advantage ? Footnote: the best comment about 'arry's departure, "Harry Redknapp will reportedly be paid £3,000,000 in compensation by Tottenham, which after tax will equate to approximately £3,000,000".
Just been over on the Spurs board. They seem to have one of the most deluded set of fans I've come across recently. When talking about palyers leaving now Harry has gone they are looking at prices in the region of £40m for Modric, £60m for Bale And they seriously think they could get that. Given that Naughton would probably be priced at about £15m. On the upside it must mean Demps is worth about £20m and Moussa about £55m.
When he joined us, Jol said that he wasn't interested in managing a Champions League club, as he'd already done that and that he didn't see Fulham as a stepping stone, but somewhere to stay and do a job for a few years. The next few days might show us whether he really meant that or not. Jol also has a reputation for playing political games with club chairmen, using other opportunities as a way of leveraging his own position. Let's hope he uses this to get investment in new players from Al Fayed, not to improve his own contract or - worst of all - that he decides (if offered) to settle unfinished business at White Hart Lane. The one thing we don't need is a third successive summer of looking for a new boss.
Very strange. Rednapp was the best manager Spurs have had in recent memory. What was the board thinking? If I remember correctly, Spurs were in the drop zone when he took over and brought them to the brink of Champions League play. As for Jol, I can't see Spurs hiring someone they'd fired just a few years ago. As for Spurs players, there are a bunch of good ones, but none we could afford. I like Piennar, but he's older than he looks. I think he's 30 or more.
Couldn't agree more. I went over there after we battered them at home but ended up losing (you know, the game where Kyle Walker thought he was Ian Walker) and to say "delusions of grandeur" would be an understatement. And Captain, I wouldn't worry about Jol going back. He probably still has a place for Spurs in his heart but the way Levy treated him was disgusting and he won't have forgotten that... Surely.
It's amazing how much forgiveness a big bag of cash can buy for modern football folk, Bidders. I don't think Spurs will come calling, but if they do I'm not entirely confident that big Mart will send them packing. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Let's just say that I'll be very happy if the rumours linking Spurs to David Moyes turn out to have some substance.
I'm sorry to say that I agree Captain. As those philosophers known as Metallica once said, "Sad But True".
We should have a look at Huddlestone, he seems to have fallen down the pecking order but is a good midfield with excellent passing range.
I don't think Jol would go back to Spurs and I don't think Levy (who obviously didn't think much of him last time around towards the end) would have him. Interesting that Moyes (who I think is a good manager) is one of the favourites and yet the average Spurs fan doesn't seem to think he's "good enough" for them and are expecting Guardiola (Sp?) or someone of that nature. Will be interesting to see how this one pans out for them.
Fair shout there Silky, he is a brilliant passer of the ball and could be a great addition to the team. I know I have batted on about this before, but Giovanni Dos Santos would be a great signing as well.
There's been a series of articles about a new manager and I don't think he's even been mentioned. Moyes and Martinez seem to have the most backing. If Moyes does take over, then Pienaar would be the least likely player to go for, as he's done very well for him at Everton. Naughton will probably replace Corluka as back-up for Walker, too. Huddlestone didn't fall down the pecking order, but spent most of last season injured, unfortunately. Only managed 3 games.
As much as I rate him, I can't see Jol going back to Spurs. He did well enough with Hamburg and Ajax, but the only silverware to show for it is the Dutch cup, and 9th with Fulham probably isn't going to have Daniel Levy thinking he made a huge mistake. I can see Dempsey being linked with Spurs if Moyes gets the job as he's a known admirer and tried to sign him when he joined Fulham.
Spuds have a lot of quality players we could use but the problem signing them is that Levy is a shrewd businessman. He doesn't mind bidding half of what a player is worth but when it comes to teams interested in his players, their value trebles. I remember Spuds wanting in excess of £10m for Kranjcar last season despite the fact he was their 6th choice central midfielder!
