Silk has good actors, strong characters and lots of machinations going on. Interesting to see how the law works (even in a fictional manner). Although not a comedy, there are reminders of 'Yes, Minister' in the way the Chief Clerk sees himself running the chambers and in the first series how he influenced which barrister in his chambers got silk. Love Italy too. Been to Tuscany, Umbria, Amalfi, Venice and Rome. Haven't been for a couple of years, but may try and spend a few days in Venice. Watch any programmes about it, including the recent two programmes about Shakespeare in Italy.
May I also recommend, when they repeat return [or if you fancy buying the DVD sets], both series of Two Greedy Italians [4 episodes each] and Sicily Unpacked. The BBC has been having a love affair with Italy for the last couple of years and there have been quite a few programmes of note. Long may it last. Cheers for the Silk comment. May tune in.
Milan, Lake Garda, Veronna, Lake Como, Sorrento, Vicenza and Trieste are all worth a visit. I love the Italians they are more laid back than the French. Don't like their football though and was pleased that Croatia equalised.
You may get more than a little annoyed with it now that the feminista run the BBC. It has sadly gone the way of the Archers which I no longer listen to. All the strong characters are women and the men are portrayed as a bunch of wimps. Lord Reith must be spinning in his grave.
I love strong female characters, but feel that sometimes it goes too far as well. I like Scott and Bailey but the second series has downgraded men too much. In the last episode of Silk, one of the defendents was a downtrodden female Muslim...fair enough, but part of me wanted the twist to be that the dead man was innocent and she was a manipulative murderer.
I would generally agree, but have you been to Southern France, Godders..? They are practically horizontal there. Love the place. In fact, I love all of the northern med + Malta and Crete. Spain I can leave out.
We holidayed in the Luberon the year before last. I love that part of France. I also love Rhone wines especially Gigondas.
Always wanted to see Carcassone...it looks fantastic. And the Languedoc has a fascinating history. I understand their language is still not encouraged by the French. They have been persecuted like the Spanish basques, but haven't achieved any degree of autonomy.
Or did he? Though I suppose even he couldn't get out of that, but is his body buried in Sherlock's grave or did they borrow a body from the morgue? I hope they reshow the last episode before the new series.
It's only another year away! He is definetley dead no question, but what happened with Sherlock? God it's such a long wait

I have just watched a recording of an episode transmitted while I was away. Our clever Ms Costello never ceases to amaze me. Her granddad landed in Normandy on D Day and that makes her an expert on British Military procedure. This is the most anti male television programme I have ever watched. I was in fits of laughter all the way through. British soldiers are nothing but a bunch of cry babies. Give me strength. I telephoned my nephew who is a Barrister and asked him what he thought of it. He just asked me what other absolute rubbish I wasted my time watching on the TV these days.
If you get there don't eat the the cassolette you'll have indegestion for a week. How such a dish gets served in such a warm climate I don't know. Three things that I did while there that I enjoyed were: the jeep drive up Canigou, the ride on the Little Yellow Train and visiting The Picasso Museum. Oh and the weather it was warm and sunny all of the time.
If our stone age ancestors had to put up with this weather I can understand them all becoming sun worshippers. More rain today and everything in the garden is sodden and not growing as quickly as it should.
