You can't open your mouth without offending someone these days.

To help me build a bit of a portfolio for potential future employers I submit articles to the contributer network on Yahoo, and this was declined as it "may cause considerable controversy"
Reading through it again, it's actually quite badly written (It was done at around 3.30am sometime last week) but the point still stands - what on Earth is wrong with this?
    ------

What a difference a day makes. Well, a month. It's fair to say that Hull City owners Assem and Ehab Allam sparked considerable uproar back in May when they ended the managerial rein of club legend Nick Barmby, drawing a close to an eight-year association with the club in extremely controversial circumstances.

On April 30th, rumours began to spread that Barmby had been suspended from his role at the club after comments made to the media. The majority of the Tiger Nation appeared to perceive this as nothing short of ludicrous, with many threatening not to renew their season passes if the rumours were true.
Lone behold, the club announced the sacking of Barmby with immediate effect on May 8th. What with the manager's close bond with the players, the attractive, vibrant brand of football he chose to play and the promising group of youngsters forming, there were fears that the entire club would implode. Whispers that key men Robert Koren, James Chester and Cameron Stewart were all headed for the exit spread accordingly - things were looking extremely grim. Nigh-on silence followed for the subsequent four weeks. At least a dozen names were bandied about, including a potentially remarkable return to the frame for Phil Brown.

On 8th June, Steve Bruce was unveiled as the new man at the KC helm, positively stunning a percentage of the Tigers' fanbase. The former Manchester United centre-half had been the bookies' odds-on favourite for around a fortnight, and yet few had truly anticipated such a high-profile arrival. Suddenly the Tiger Nation was buzzing again, with further big-name signings being touted by the media, such as Emile Heskey and Craig Gordon.

Bruce is arguably the first real big-name manager to have been in charge at the KC Stadium in recent years, although this will only heighten the expectations of the local support. Once considered a top-10 team, the Tigers will now be expected to achieve a playoff spot - a target not so unrealistic for a squad of their calibre. Bruce was quoted as having said that "four or five" signings were needed for the new campaign, with attention expected to be focused on a new goalkeeper, wide man and goalscorer.

The Allams have certainly recovered a good amount of support with this coup, but it will take a long, long time for the Tiger Nation to put all off their trust back into their Egyptian owners.
What lies next for Nick Barmby, who knows. He may be gone, but he's certainly not forgotten.

    ----------
Guaranteed someone points something blatantly offensive out now <whistle>

I can't see anything wrong with it myself - but you may have hung yourself with the first paragraph.

You yourself state that the article you are penning is regarding an incident which brought to an end an eight-year association with a football club of a manager in "extremely controversial circumstances"

I'm guessing the platform you uploaded it to were not overly familiar with Hull City, so the following content would not necessarily have told them very much.

If one of their things is not to allow anything that "may cause considerable controversy", an article that itself claims a situation is "extremely controversial" may just have been rejected out of hand.

Could you remove that bit, or re-word it and resubmit?

I see what you mean, but it's the third time they've done it (not on the same article) and to be honest I've had enough. I'll still write things up but I'll just have to find another way, I can't be arsed to keep changing articles because the editor is too picky.

I mean, obviously in a job you need to accept editor's decisions anyway, but at least in those situations they tell you the exact part of which is unacceptable as opposed to leaving you to guess.

Yeah, it's definitely not right them just rejecting your work without explaining where you went wrong. You're hardly going to be motivated into writing more for them, are you?

    Egyptian owners maybe ? i dunno .

maybe it was your comment The majority of the Tiger Nation appeared to perceive this as nothing short of ludicrous, with many threatening not to renew their season passes if the rumours were true.
as i dont reckon you had canvassed the general public on this issue - you might find it was a noisy minority - i dont know as i never did a poll either .

maybe its that about 90% of what you put is nothing but forum speculation

Well I'd say that the 2nd statement which is almost all wrong in its assertions might have put them off due to libel laws. Majority? Many? Attractive, vibrant brand of football (seriously did you watch any games in March?!?! :) ), the association with Brownie was entirely created...by Brownie. You get the general idea.

Oh and yeah, Ku de ta ffs KU DE TA!

Me too. Though his follow up to me about it is equally as good as he explains it

"Ku De Ta.......Is actually spelt "Coup d'etat" and it means the Sudden, Illegal overthrowing of a government by a part of the state establishment usually the millitary - to replace the branch of the stricken government, either with another civil government or with a millitary government. Thats a Coup d'etat(pronounced Ku De Ta.) This has happened in parts of the world in years gone by.

It was a saying used a bit in the US tv series 24 with Keifer Sutherland as Jack Bauer."

Tickler is the best poster on here, his delusions know no boundaries.

I was actually just generally raising the point that you can't say anything whatsoever in public without worrying that you're going to be faced with six court appearances, it's all gone to ****.

I think majority is more than fair, even people who wanted Barmby gone, e.g. TWF, agreed that the fashion in which he was sacked was ludicrous.
Throughout the course of Barmby's reign we did play, or at least attempt to play Arsenal-style football, and because of some extremely poor games here and there I'm hardly going to change the statement to 'Ugly, boring brand of football".

Oh, and this was to be posted in the opinions section as opposed to articles, so I had hoped they'd give me a little bit of leeway.

As I've already said that myself, you're hardly going to get a reaction<ok>

Compared to your unintelligent posts, I don't actually know how you can criticise someone else's use of English
