    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2159122/Hatem-Ben-Arfa-Chelsea-target.html

Hatem Ben Arfa is next on the list of Roman Abramovich's transfer targets as Chelsea's Russian owner looks to add more flair to his squad.

He appointed Roberto Di Matteo as full time manager with a two-year contract on Wednesday and is providing him with plenty of fire-power.

Chelsea have already acquired Marko Marin and Eden Hazard to bolster their attacking midfield options but Newcastle's twinkle-toed Frenchman is next.

Blues representatives have approached Newcastle to enquire about the player and Chelsea believe they can procure him for around £18million - although Newcastle will demand more than £26m.

Chelsea are also pursuing Hulk although if they sign Ben Arfa it remains to be seen whether they will continue

Ben Arfa cost Newcastle just £5m from Marseilles after he moved on loan to the club in 2010.

He has three years remaining on his contract and fans will be desperate to keep him as the Toon look to build on their superb display this season.

Hulk could cost the club upwards of £40m - when added to Ben Arfa's potential fee and the £32m for Hazard and £8m on Marin, it would reach an astonishing £100m.

If they are serious get at least £25m with £20m upfront.

Chelsea have Marin, Hazard, Mata and potentially Hulk who play in Ben Arfa's position. Add to that, the fee is way way too low and we have ourselves some lazy journalism. The Mail is really out doing itself

Not a bad offer if it was true. I wouldn't blame if we sold him. He's talented but far too inconsistent. I'd much rather a less talented, more consistent player who contributes 7-10 goals a season and the same amount of assists than someone who contributes 2-3 world class goals a season and very few assists.

30m? <laugh> Hes only been a first team starter since march right?

18m is more than a fair price for HBA right now.

    Regardless, its bullshit anyway.

    For us...Because he was injured!

Let's not forget how highly rated he was as a youngster, just his attitude and application let him down. He's twice the player he was, he now has an eye for a pass AND puts in work for the team...£30m is high, but not ridiculous - He's still young and is still developing!

We wouldn't be buying Hulk aswell as Ben Arfa, apparently the Hulk deal is looking like it's about to fall through.

He's been the most talented and technical football player we've had in ages. He was injured for a long time, he took a bit of time to get back to full speed.

He's already proven his worth at times here and before in the French league and in the CL.

25m at the least. Take the Russian ****!

Can't see it think Chelsea need an out and out centre forward, would be a bad move for all.

It would be a terrible move for him. Don't get me wrong Chelsea are a top club nowadays, european champions no less, but they do have a habit of buying players on a whim and then never letting them see the light of day. If he decides to become part of their numbers game, I think he'd be making a mistake.

Agreed. He needs time and patience to develop his talent. He would not get that at Chelsea where the media scrutinise every minute detail of your game. He needs another year or two to develop his consistency and overall game before he gets a move to a big club.

I would assume that one of the big reasons for him not realising his potential earlier is the fact Marseille/Lyon were too much for him at a young age. And because of the spotlight on them in the French media he never concentrated fully on developing his game and was too easily distracted.

Hes a great player no doubt, but right now hes worth £20m at the most. Ashley would take the piss anyway and probably wouldnt let him go for £20m.

With another season of solid performances behind him he could be worth £30m or even more.

His transfer value would never be 20m right now, but 20m would be about right for his worth IMO. He recovered from a horrific injury and when we put him in the right position for him he was world class.

Anyways what a player is worth means **** all, it's how much clubs will take and give for players.

Hatem Ben Arfa says on his official website in the fans question section that he will only leave Newcastle if a club in the champions league makes a serious offer for him.

As somebody has already pointed out, he played less than half a season as a starter, so your point is moot because he might have scored more and assisted more.

What I'd say is I hope he stays for the next season. We have a talented first team (currently around 8/9 I would deem as such) and about 3 good back-ups, while the rest are youth or decent squad players. If we could provide a bit of investment into a first team RB and LB, while acquiring a better back-up CB, MC and FC, we'd be in a very good position to put up a challenge to Champions league I think (and thus keeping all our talented players).

However, this is Ashley and his business model is one which is enviably sustainable, but which is flawed in terms of success. If this summer pans out the way I think it will, we'll sell a few on for profit and have to start again almost. We'll keep floating and dipping, but as long as we keep playing good football and the future of the club is taken care of, I guess I'll be ok with that. It's just frustrating having seen in this squad potential for the last 3 years, which we've added to, yet we can't achieve the great heights because we can't really spend that much.

For what it's worth, I said 3 years ago that we had title winning talent in the squad, and it's even more true now to my mind, but it would take a good £30 million of incredibly astutely spent investment to even come close. Maybe I'm just deluded?
