We have been linked with Giroud (Montpellier) who looks likely to sign for Arsenal, and I see Moses (Wigan) is favorite on sky bet to go to Chelsea. If we can't sign these types of players I guess we will have to look for a Cisse (that's the Newcastle one), players who are not so well known.
I prefer those type of players, how many of the plastic 'big clubs' fans had heard of Diakite??? If we could get another two signings in the same vein I would be very happy
we'll get someone we haven't heard of, was in the rumors that staff were in Central Europe to talk with few possible targets last week. We didn't really hear of Diakite too long before he was on loan in january, looks like MH does his business in the quiet and wants to keep it that way.
Yea, lets hope Diakite signs, he reminds me of a young Vierra. Be gutted if he ends up at another Premier League team.
I really believe the deal is done and dusted, he's ours. Think I read somewhere that it can't be announced officially before july 1st, don't know why...
I prefer unknown signings like Diakite over signing proven failures, especially ones after one last fat contract. I just wish we dont sign too many Africans or our team will be gutted in January for a month.
You'd better drop Sparky a line about these African signings Flyer, he probably doesn't know about ACON.
Leave it out QL, finding another R in north London is more rare that finding one in wooloomoolonggooloo. That's all.
I'm still stunned Cisse joined us, Rome to Sheppards Bush. We are unlikely to be able to persuade up and coming stars, such as Giroud to join us until we have moved from Loftus Road, sad but true. But the fact that MH has already made some of the best signings in the premiership in recent years, in terms of uncovering someone unheard of and they quickly become one of the best. I feel Diakite is the next one on that list. But in a few years time when we have moved I think most of us will cry with delight at some of the players we have, let's just always remember our roots and not become overly confident like Chelsea fans seem these days.
We need players. They can't all be top drawer signings as this would cost far too much money. The signing of Taiwo and Diakite shows that Hughes and his team have eyes all over the place and aren't just going for the usual suspects, whether they stay or not. I am sure that there will be one marquee signing during the window (which doesn't open for a couple of weeks) and several from across the water who we have never heard much about. Then there are the likes of Johnson and Nelsen. Both of these are players Hughes knows, obviously trusts, will know his methods and fit into the player jigsaw he is creating. They are not necessarily his key players who will play every game if fit. They are players who are currently available on a free, so the business can be done now. That is why they are getting mentioned in the media. People shout about signing young players. If you were a young player and are making a name for yourself in the lower leagues and QPR come knocking, would you sign up immediately? No you wouldn't. You will wait to see if a bigger club (Utd, City, Arse, Scum), or a club that you particularly like - for whatever reason - comes in for you. You will wait to get the best possible deal. You may also wait to see who else signs for the club. I think that the best news is yet to come and will surprise people. This year there will be no rushing around at the last minute trying to find players, although there might be a few last minute signings as players and agents drag out the process trying to get the best deal possible. Hughes will get some of those he wants and lose out on others, but that happens to all managers including Ferguson and Wenger. At least this year we have time. No worrying about whether the board will stump up any money at all and no worries about crap owners selling (and who to). The transfer window isn't open yet so all the news is about those available on a free. I expect good things when the window finally opens ... and not before time!
Good point, Eamon. There's a world of difference between researching and selecting a target early and conducting lengthy negotiations with his agent (where brinkmanship plays a part on both sides) before closing the deal before the window closes AND being forced to take the wallflowers no one else wanted with only hours/minutes of the window left, as Warnock was obliged to do before the start of last season.
A young player would get playing time, signing for the scum would be the end of his career, precisely how many teenagers have they bought through? Someone like Rhodes wouldnt get a look in at the big clubs but could be playing every week here.
