That was the one I was thinking of but couldnt remember who! Both Friedel and VDS prove age doesnt matter with a goalkeeper.
Happy with green? I wouldn't be too thrilled...not sure he's ever finished in the top half...you could've got better...and for 50k...
We allegedly offered £3.5 million for Foster, who would be my personal choice, but Birmingham are trying to get £5 million and MH wouldn't pay that. Green as a free is the sensible option to allow MH to strengthen other areas of the side. Craig Gordon has turned down Celtic over wages but again, I think Green would be the better option...
What do you mean who? Can you actually not think of a decemt keeper who'd be on less than 50k...Gilks at blackpool - great keeper just been out for a bit...fraser forster (although admittedly I'm not sure if he's gone somewhere else already this summer) - wigan's keeper...al-habsi...ruddy must be on a third of that...
Prefer Green to all them, plus they'd command a transfer fee, free agents gets paid a bit more don't they.
looks like he's coming so lets give him a chance eh, does anyone know he's on 50k? no its done through papers & what do they know f.all, same as johnson if they both arrive lets get behind them.
only looked in to see if they had any info on Green. The other stuff was on our twitter board. They are begining to sound like Leeds fans now by living on past glories.
Ellers - WHU will struggle next year imo. I don't think they will invest as they are already paying a tidy sum in players wages. I can't believe they have let Green go. Shows what ambition the board is lacking there . Signing Boltons number two . They will struggle .
Anyone who pulls on the Hoops should be cheered when they cross the white line (even goalkeepers, who I appreciate rarely wear hoops!). Only stop cheering when they cross the red line, like JB does. If Green comes to us, fantastic. He's a top class keeper, prone to the odd gaffe, but who isn't. If Johnson comes, he's also a good player who deserves the chance to prove it at the Theatre Of Hoopy Dreams...
Sky reported he was signing for 40k which is much more like it and i think its pretty decent value if true.
Jake Humphrey on twitter (@mrjakehumphrey) 'Tomorrow Rob Green has a medical for QPR, I head to Wroclaw for the next game, pitch-side live again... #BreakingNews'
That seems to end all speculation on the goalie threads , who shall we get in as a midfield playmaker?
He still might well drop the tube he's supposed to blow into, the urine and stool tests he just has to walk next door to the lab, but he'll make a spectacular save on the rubber hammer aimed at his knee in the reactions test. Failing all that he'll drop and break the pen he's supposed to sign with. By which time he'll need to get back to the England Camp before another pen can be found, and the Club will get time to reconsider!
QPRâs Green day draws near Fri 15th Jun 2012 23:54 by Chris King If the newspapers are to be believed QPRâs first summer signing will be West Hamâs out of contract England international goalkeeper Rob Green. Chris King gives LFW his thoughts. While the European Championships stir the interest of football fans across the continent, the summer transfer merry-go-round has begun in earnest. Following a plethora of goalkeeper-based rumours, and offers apparently made for stoppers ranging from Shay Given to Ben Foster, Fraser Forster to Michel Vorm Rangers have allegedly found their man. Robert Green, 32-years-old, is currently a free agent at West Ham United after failing to agree a new contract at Upton Park. With Green part of the England squad in Poland, any signing is unlikely to be announced until after the tournament (or at least following the Three Lionsâ valiant quarter-final exit). Furthermore, the clubâs policy of âif we donât report it, it hasnât happenedâ means that for now this remains an internet rumour, albeit a rather potent one that the national press have been quoting for days now in their droves. Should the transfer go through, it has been reported that Green will actually be taking a wage cut to join QPR on a £40,000 per week deal. Astonishing though this is, donât think that the Râs have abandoned laissez-faire capitalism for financial stringency; he will be awarded an astronomical signing on fee. The major implication of Greenâs arrival will be the departure of Paddy Kenny. Neil Warnock, now the manager of Championship side Leeds, has coveted âhis keeperâ ever since he took the job, and it is highly unlikely Kenny will simply accept having his number one spot taken from him. The relationship between Warnock and the 34-year-old is incredibly strong, and Kenny has spent the vast majority of his career under the tutelage of the Yorkshireman. On this basis, it only seems fair to pay tribute to the man who kept 24 clean sheets in the Râs title-winning season, and on more than one occasion this past year was the last (and once or twice only) line of defence as Rangers adjusted to life in the Premier League. In reality, however, these two transfers make sense for all concerned. Leaving aside Greenâs nightmare moment in the 2010 World Cup, his ability as a goalkeeper cannot really be questioned, and he has the top flight experience QPR require as they look to build a bona-fide Premier League starting 11. He may not be the best on crosses, but this is a perennial weakness afflicting most goalkeepers, and it might be argued that as long as a keeper can inspire confidence in the defence, he is worth having. There is no evidence to suggest that Green cannot do this. While on the subject of speculation and half-truths, it is well worth taking a second to analyse some of the more unrealistic items that have arisen thus far. While the vast majority of players linked to the club have been those paid to keep goals out, the most outlandish of all concerned a striker remunerated for his ability to thwart the man between the posts. Olivier Giroud, also far more realistically linked with Arsenal, scored 21 league goals for Montpellier as they won the Ligue 1 title for the first time in the clubâs history. With his agent valuing Giroud at £50m, and an alleged buy-out clause of £12.8m, methinks this was one of those âslow news dayâ rumours. Because naturally a 25-year-old striker, called up to the French squad for Euro 2012, in his goal scoring prime, would elect to join a side that avoided relegation by a single point. We can dream.
