Milner can also play CM, I don't know whether you've seen or not. We only have 2 out and out CMs in the squad
To be fair how much football has Lennon played for England and Spurs over the course of last season? I'd be surprised if managed more than 25 leagues games last year and he didn't seem to setting the world alight towards the back end. He always seems to be picking up strains and missing international fixtures, eventually they stop relying on you. I like him pace wise but he still doesn't provide much quality in terms of final delivery. Milner hasn't played well for a while now though so we definitely have problems wide. Ideally Ox and Adam Johnson would be the type of subs you want to change a game. We need to get Young wide to sort one side out. Maybe give Defoe a run against Sweden and leave Ox in as we have nothing else bar Downing.
We would have lost with Lennon in the side. First of all, he's barely good enough for an England B side, and secondly we'd get overrun on the flanks becuase we're bus parkers and he doesn't defend.
More than Chamberlain with Arsenal and England. Lennon was picking up a few injuries in the second half of the season but that seemed to be because he was being rushed back due to his importance for us. Eventually we gave him the extra time to recover and he was fully fit and playing well by the end, which is why I was surprised he got left out.
He's not the best tackler, admittedly but he tracks back and closes down a hell of a lot. He played in front of Walker all season so he's used to working with an attacking fullback too. The original squad had Lampard and Barry in it yet he wasn't selected. I just don't see the logic in playing Milner as first choice, out of position on the wing. It's hard to believe that Walcott was selected over him too when you consider he plays further up the pitch for Arsenal, whilst Lennon plays in pretty much the same formation as England for his club. Oh well, I guess the extra rest will do him good for Spurs next season so I can't complain really.
Walcott, Young, Chamberlain and Johnson are all better options for attacking wingers, and Milner provides versatility and good defensive qualities. If Lennon had been on the right against France Ribery would have had a field day.
I'm not sure I agree with that Simon, I think Lennon is decent but I can understand why Milner was picked over him. Hes definitely better than Henderson by a country mile as well as downing. I'd argue he's better than Theo 'pace and **** all else' Walcott and Johnson. I like the idea of chamberlain but he doesn't have as much experience and young is probably the best winger we have despite him being an absolute ****
Nonsense. Lennon is way better than Walcott and Chamberlain. Besides, Lennon would have had just as much joy against Evra as Ribery would against Johnson.
Well if he is he isn't showing it. France have one of the best attacks in the world, if we'd played full on attacking football it would have been another Germany at the WC. We have the best defence in the competition and we're playing to our strengths, that's how you win a competition.
Simon, I gotta disagree with something there. We do not have the best defence in the competition. We aren't even playing England's best defence. We have Johnson who is average, Terry who is past it, Lescott who is reckless and Cole who is starting to show age. You could easily say names in other teams in the Euros who have far better. Hart is probably our best player at the moment and there are still better keepers in the competition
