I already suggested running the same names, but in a poll for which manager you don't want at WHL next season - which would be a straight race between Harry and Benitez.
As I've been saying for some time, I would prefer him to go. However, I'm not in the "Harry out at all costs" camp. If we find a good, suitable, long term replacement, then yes, we need to move forward. But, it has to be the right replacement.
Nah. If people feel that having Glenn Hoddle or AVB or Jol or Klinsmann or Joachim Lowe next season is less bad than having Harry stay on...well - they basically forfeit any right to be taken seriously to be perfectly frank. Even those who want Harry out would put several of those names above before his in who they'd least want in charge next season. Unless they're being very silly and just trying to make some sort of point of other. About how they've lost all perspective.
Your perspective is yours lenny but I find it equally strange that you consider Harry is worthy of your support. I know the positions that Spurs have reached during his stewardship, before you list them all out for me, it's not just that; some of us are sick of his constant media presence in the cause of Mr.Harry Redknapp. I am convinced that Harry can spot a 'footballer' and I am also convinced he can motivate any player that he favours but that is where it ends. Apart from those two attributes I see little evidence of any other qualities. That is not good enough for me and it's not good enough for Spurs IMO. I am sure we could find any number of managers who would perform better with this squad than Harry and nearly all would handle the media in a more professional manner. We haven't actually won anything to lose so onward and upward for me and upward means goodbye Harry IMO. Of course that involves the risk of the next manager (whoever he is) failing but if you are to achieve anything in life you have to take risks. I support Spurs because I want to see exciting football and I want to see them going for it. No way do I subscribe to oh! 4th that's pretty good let's be safe and aim for another 4th next season. No the reality is 4th could be 10th or 11th You still haven't won anything have you. Thanks Harry for assembling this squad but you are full of doubts about how far they can go, so let's get someone who is a bit more optimistic and a bit more clued up on good management.
You talk about how he handles himself in the media. Well yeah - that is annoying. But cos of the information age we live in, these quotes are thrown around and around for weeks on end with "new" stories coming up on Newsnow every 15 mins which re-hash the same old balloney. The number of times that Harry actually says something unwise/dodgy? Maybe four or five times a year? This whole "I'd have taken the England job" thing - we all KNEW that anyway. And that "story" is now going round and round and round. Good grief! Trouble is that everyone on this forum loves talking/thinking about football and Spurs in particular far too much (it's why we're here). But there's really not much to talk about TBH. Every week during the season we play a game or two. About four or five times a year we sign someone. Every few years we appoint a new manager so we can start all over again. I mean - not much happens at any football club. Not enough to keep our 24 hour internet-fuelled eyes and fingers happy. And since nature abhors a vacuum we all have to find something to think about and discuss. Normally at this time of year it's ridiculous transfer rumours or our own speculation. Or perhaps talking about how crap all the newspapers are and how they're not to be trusted on anything. Right now I can't help but see all this Redknapp talk as the thing that's currently filling the vacuum. Nothing has changed re Harry in the last few weeks. There is no news. Harry has not said anything controversial in the last few minutes or the last hour or even the last few days and weeks. Yet he's getting hammered for it cos every time I look on Newsnow there's another poorly-informed, poorly-written blog going on and on about "it" whatever "it" is.
So you didn't hear Harry putting his case for a new contract to the world in the last week. You didn't hear him talk of Levy's bereavement without any consideration for the family. You didn't hear his 'amazing in depth explanation' of Dutch football. On and on he goes with barely a week missed, the Harry's got Talent show. NO I wouldn't buy a used car from this man or a can of petrol. And he manages Spurs FFS!
Harry Redknapp faces uncertain Tottenham future despite denial By Ben Smith BBC Sport Harry Redknapp's position at Tottenham is increasingly uncertain despite his strenuous denial that he would resign as manager. Redknapp, 65, will hold talks with chairman Daniel Levy, possibly as early as Wednesday, to discuss his future.
I actually missed it as I was heading round to a friend's for the second half. He was answering questions about the contract situation wasn't he? So putting his case forward is fine in my eyes. Mentioning Levy's also seems relevant since he's being asked why he and Levy are still to do anything. Didn't hear his amazing in depth discussion of Dutch football. Heard him say he didn't much fancy them, though. Also heard he mentioned Wenger and water bottles. Whatever - none of that seems bad to me. And believe me - I would criticise him if I thought he deserved it.
And so we continue to go round in ever decreasing circles! The facts are..Yes, Harry did want the England job, and would have jumped at it ( surprise, surprise!) secondly, The Chairman IS clearly pissed off with him, and feels as many of us do, that his blatant courtship of the England job cost us a CL position. Harry will almost certainly not get the 3 year contract he seeks. IMO, the best he can hope for from Levy at this time is to be given another year to see how it goes. That, I feel, is the very best he can hope for right now. Personally, I don't think he'll get it. I am now convinced that Levy wants him out, and is purely trying to get rid of him as cheaply as possible.
For the people that are claiming "we need a manager to take us to the next level" how you going to feel if that level is DOWN, as some of you seem to think its easy, identify a manager, bring him in and he will do better then Redknapp, in no way is it as simple as this. Just remember there is more of a chance that any new manager will fail, as right away he will be under pressure to improve on 4th and that in reality is going to be a harder task each year.
Boss, Boss, Boss - you must be new to this. The point is that AVB, Ancelloti, Klinsmann, Martinez, Bilic are all dead certs to improve on our shameful position in the league. Many have already spotted that us not winning the title is way below where we need to be. What possible reason could there for us not winning the league? Manchester who? If only Harry wasn't holding us back!
......"new manager must play great football, keep all players happy and qualify for the champions league" ....and wait for it..some believe Roberto Martinez is that man...GOOD LUCK! I myself became frustrated at arry but learned that that was more my disappointment at the way our season went so its easy to attack the manager when things go wrong yet some on here really believe a "better" manager will walk into this club and just improve on what redknapp has done, just because they know how to organise set plays or are more professional with the media. For us to improve on 4th, I don't believe its much to do with a new manager, its more about stability and allowing the current squad to have failure and then bounce back as a unit and Redknapp is part of this as the players respond to his management.
I'm sure that most of the players - those with half a brain anyway, are now under no illusions that Harry is about as loyal to them, as he is to the club. Harry's favourites will undoubtedly be happy if he stays. Those who are not, will not care.
Really, are there many who arent happy? as the only players that seem to moan are the ones which don't get games, doesn't that happen at all clubs? If arry gets the best out of our leading players and they all respect him and perform for him, that is obviously important and while arry may not seem loyal, at least we know what we get with him and next season he would know he has to deliver champions league football. I would rather allow arry that chance with this group of players, then hand over the club to some german manager, ex player or little roberto, with a 4 year contract that is under immense pressure from the start.
I'm not of the opinion that he should be sacked just for the sake of it. I still think, however, that Levy will get rid of him, anyway. For all the reasons that have been listed by me, and many others here, I feel that we've gone as far as we can go under Redknapp. I would agree, however, that it would be self defeating to just fire him, and bring in a totally unsuitable candidate. I'm sure that Levy however, will have learnt from the Jol/Ramos fiasco.
Thats the danger though, as rewind back to February and redknapp was the best manager in the country, manager of the team playing the best football. Now he is deemed to be someone we can't trust, isn't loyal and has taken as as far as he can. If he is sacked then it won't be for a planned improvement, as in people at spurs have been seeking the "perfect" replacement, he will be sacked for the wrong reasons and we will end up in a worse situation. Also, any manager walking into this job won't have the luxury arry had in that the only way is up, for the new manager any mistakes will mean we will go down a level as all the clubs around us are improving their squad. It would be one of the riskiest moves levy has ever made BUT if he managed to bring in someone who could improve us then he would be labelled a genius.
