Top 3 are easy, Shawshank - beautiful film, beautifully shot. The scenes toward the end when red is looking for the tree with andys note are stunning and Morgan freemans voice calms me. Heat - class Dead mans' shoes - anyone seen it? Beyond that, it gets tricky but I'll go for, Cast away - simply because it's the 1st film I watched with my wife The descendants - last film I watched and thought it were smashing.
Sorry, cant agree with that last para..i used to work in the film industry and watched "literally" thousands of films at work. Shawshank is one of only a few films i would watch more than once. Going by your list we obviously have VERY VERY diffrent tastes as i wouldn't watch any of those again..ever. But, each to thier own i suppose....?
We're all very different people on this Forum, that's what makes it so interesting. As for the Shawshank, I think its a very good film but I wouldn't like to watch it again. Too long (sic Clive Whittingham). I was actually in that prison. Its near Columbus Ohio.
Not as an inmate ye Doink! Na, its a tourist attraction ever since the film became famous. My brother lives near there. Impressive place.
I love Shawshank. The last 10 minutes are preposterous and it should end with the shot of the bus over the top of which is Morgan Freeman saying 'Hope.' I was lucky, I saw it under the best possible circumstances.. alone.
So Swords..how did you get out....crawl through some sewer pipe or bribe a gaurd? Just visiting.....yeah righto !!
I'd like to add ... ' No Country For Old Men ' to my list. Xavier Bardem is a great actor ( new JB bad guy. ) in this wonderfully great disturbing film. Anton Shirgar has to be one of the most frightening characters since Max Cody from Cape Fear. Another 90's classic.
My main issue with Shawshank is the way it's hyped up as the worlds #1 film when it's nowhere near, and it gets added almost by default to people's lists because they reckon it's a cool movie to have on their list, even though they have probably never seen it. And yes, our tastes ARE different, which I see is a good thing. Still waiting for your list so I can voice how much I reckon it's a dumb list, so in your own time...
I personally can't see the dis-appeal of Shawshank. The reason why this film appeals so much to men is that it resonates the want to be free, yet have that security of a loved one standing by. It is only men that love this film so much. Notice that no women vote for it, That's only the half of it. This is a very important film. The big question is why? Maybe Matt can enlighten us....No pressure Matt.

Will.. I already posted my list a few posts ago.. not long after your comment i believe. i dont think your list is dumb by any means and yes its a massive plus we are all diffrent. be very boring on this board if we were all the same. All i meant was i have seen the films on your list and didnt enjoy any of them personally. In no way does that make them or you dumb. Sorry if thats the way it came across! Shawshank is on my list and yes i own a copy of it, as i do all of my top 5. Nothing deep and meaninfull about them, just like watching them over again. Bit like a good book really....I'm sure that will be our next top 5 list ?
My favourite film ever is "Once Upon a Time in the West". I could watch it again and again and never get bored. Ever. Beyond that there are a few The Mission Platoon The Usual Suspects and Scrooged ! which makes me chuckle every Xmas time !! I can't think of a single film from the last ten years that I would put in my top 20, never mind 10........
Dead mans' shoes is ****ing brilliant Woody,"What the **** are you looking at","You ya ****".Paddy Consadine is a top actor.Love Kubrick and Paths Of Glory and The Shining are superb with Kirk Douglas and Jack Nicholson giving acting tour de force's.Citizen Kane is a masterpiece, and De Niro's performance in Raging Bull is the best i've seen.Other mentions to The Aviator with Di Caprio and Monster with Charlize Theron.Once upon a time in the West is the greatest western ever made, the music is truly magical!
