Nobody has actually said he would come here for half the money, Rich never said that at all and he was merely looking at it in another, more idealistic way that I think a lot of us can appreciate so wind your neck in a bit sometimes Supers, you don't have to be right about everything mate
Whereabouts do you live, Rich? If I'd known that you could have come over to Cromer last Friday, when Maestro was buying breakfast for everyone
err, i'm not too sure what i've said here that some people are finding so controversial??? i made the point that if villa offer him considerably more money than we do, he'll go there. its all going to be about money. its so rare to find an individual who will shirk at the thought of big bucks to stay on less money, especially at a young age in a career that lasts no more than 15-20 years. i applaud those who do such as huckerby. i also stated that he won't move to norwich simply because its a nice area. no point getting all upset about it - money is probably why holt will move on this summer too and if anyone should feel some affinity to the club and the area and in particular the fans, then it should be him. footballers live in a different world to all of us. just cos they earn the same in a week as many of us do in a whole year doesn't process in their thoughts. its all about what their team mates and friends at other clubs earn that they compare themselves against. norwich players are very, very poor in terms of premier league footballers. if they can make lots more at another club then its got to be expected that they will go.
incredibly rare situation though. he had a young family and wanted to settle down in the area. norwich suited him down to the ground. don't be fooled and think many other players think the same way. most will not, especially when young. it was one of those occasions where everything just fell into place for both player and club. lets not forget either that the club couldn't actually afford to pay hucks - his wages were paid by a local businessman because he wanted too much, so he was hardly being paid peanuts
Supers, the point you made about him wanting to settle in the area, but earlier you say that nobody would move here for that . There are some peole that will do a job in a certain place because they do actually like the area. For some people, it's not all about the money.
but my point is you won't find any 22 year olds who move to norfolk 'to settle'!! if he comes here it'll be because we've offered him a very competitive wage - and i for one hope we can do that! great player and an even better prospect.
yeah, i thought that too! the press have literally no idea who hughton will want. i saw us linked with zigic the other day in two papers, this despite it being well known to midlands journalists that hughton never rated him while at birmingham - he had to play him because they had nobody else! i think there is probably some truth in the davies rumours though - we lack numbers in that position and he had a great season - it would make sense! we've been linked to mariappa today from watford - no idea how they've figured it out but he's a good player.
Realistically we canot/will not compete with Villa on wages so the relatively modest (for such a good young player) transfer fee is irrelevant. We like to think that our players have an affinity with the club and the fans (which I am sure they do) but this only goes so far and i am sure Naughton also has a personal rapport with PL who gave him his chance. Even the most lloyal of us would seriously look at a change of job if offered a significant increase in salary, particularly a young lad with no family issues. That said it would take a bucketload of cash to make my move my family to the West Midlands from God's own county but we all have different motivators.
I think this kind of thing comes down to how much difference. If I was choosing between £15K a week and £17K a week (I should be so lucky!), I'd go for the job I wanted or the nicer place to live every time. But if someone offered to double my wages to live in a ****hole I might do it. (Having said that, I wouldn't teach English in Saudi Arabia for a million pounds a year.)
Cannot believe that no-one is factoring in his driving ban http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-16964923 It takes a lot of enjoyment out of the countryside, without a car!
......completely made up figure, even if he is available which has not been stated by spurs as yet. lazy journalism in a cr*p paper.
Would be coup if we get him, and woud send a message, but Hughton may have someone completely different in mind.
