This certainly is the one major area of concern in the team. We do not have good enough cover in that position. As good a player as Rusty is, he is not quite good enough to be the pacy up and down right back that Naughton is.

Am I the only one who thinks that's a lot of money? Will be almost have of our transfer budget gone whilst we still might need to replace Holt.

That is a lot of money but is no doubt the going rate for a player going from one Prem club to another. I'm afraid this is the company we are in now.

The thing about this one is that we're not buying blind! We know exactly what we're getting, and we know he fits our team. It's just about wages at the end of the day!

But where would you rather live???

I have to agree with you though Dave and I think it's a fair price for such a quality and verstaile player. I loved the understanding he and Elliott Bennett had which terrorised several defences last season!!!

Wages aren't everything, area, style of living, mates etc

OK so if he's offered double the wages we can offer it's hard to turn down but i've gone from a job on £16k to £25k and hated it and went back despute the wages <laugh>

I'm sorry, but this 'article' is total bollocks. Chris Hughton, by all accounts, is still on holiday with his DVD's and will assess the squad he has in due course before making bids for any players. Lazy journo yet again just because he was here last year <ok>

We can just buy him with the money we get for Holt and save the transfer budget for replacing him.

    Simples <ok>

well the article is clearly bollocks unless hughton is telling the press what he is thinking on his holiday but naughton would go to villa ahead of us because they pay more in wages. anyone who thinks he would come here on half the money is not living in the real world. just cos birmingham is a **** hole is irrelevant - he'll live in one of the nice areas like bromsgrove

£4m is reasonable, I would hope that Naughton enjoyed his time here and would like to return, but there may be added complications such as I think atm he is banned from driving? We can only hope that Hughton will sign him!

Sorry Supers you are probably right but to say that i'm not living in the real world is rather disparaging plenty of people sacrifice wages to live or work where they ENJOY themselves. Hate to bang on about me again but I love living on the North Norfolk coast and I love working in a school on very low wages it suits my lifestyle. I could easily go and live in Norwich or any other large urban area and I could more than double my salary EASILY if not treble it but I don't want to, I could use the money unlike footballers we are hard up we have around £15k coming in 4 of us live on that one wage (2 kids) so it's not like I couldn't use more money but life comes down to more than that tbh, so perhaps we can not get too personal?

As for Bromsgrove being nice well as someone who used to work for a company based there we'll agree to disagree on that one eh <ok>

I'm not saying he will come on half wages because 99.9% of footballers (and managers) are basically mercenaries and go where the money is but don't just rule it out instantly like that!

Rich you are rich because you have got your values in life right, money only gets you stuff which once achieved creates a desire for more stuff, living a peaceful life in wonderful surroundings creates joy , this is something m,oney cant buy, unfortunately most footballers are young and dont appreciate these things, Holty has just demonstrated that and he is older than most.

I am happy that we have a good well run club, I dont hanker after top european football, if it comes lovely but I enjoy what I have at ncfc and long may it continue

If footballers didn't move to **** holes then Ipswich would have had to pack it in years

But that's NOT what I said is it? Anyway i'd rather live in Ipswich than anywhere around Birmingham and that's really saying something <ok>

sorry rich but i totally stand by what i said. absolutely no way he'd join us if villa pay him more money. he has no loyalty to us or any other club in particular - its his job and he will go where he earns more, not which team has the prettier countryside! as for bromsgrove, i meant the area surrounding it which is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by canals and many wealthy people live in that area in their mansions, rather than the place itself <ok>

It isn't totally about money, money would be a big tick in villa favour, along with the chance to work with lambert again.
In Norwich he knows the players, has friends here. We currently have a slightly better squad.
Generally football players are motivated by ambition and money, realistically villa going to pay more, ambition wise who knows where they will be next year.
