Read a couple of titles to posts. Having a pop at Sunderland. Well. For you toon posters, here are MY facts and MY reasons. Born in Whitburn, which at the time had a pit that produced good coal. My dad was a Deputy (please note the capital) and swore none of his 3 sons would go down one of them holes. My 2 brothers worked at JL Thompsons, did their time and got trades. I went to college then joined the NCB in the offices and worked me way up. Eventually had to go down those holes during the strike as a member of BACM (those that know, know) and didn't enjoy one minute. What I'm trying to say is that these magpies who scorn our town - city - whatever, know NOTHING. We built the biggest tonnage of ships, using steel made in 'Boro. The steel was made with coke made from the coal this area produced. My p**s is boiled by those who call my Sunderland. Newcastle always gets the money. If it doesn't, Gateshead does and they latch on. I work in their town and look at how they have been able to develop whilst we have to live on the dregs. Stop being so smug about the toon you crass. You have to win 3 more championships of the top football league before you can say you are better than us. Its not red wine. It's vodka tonight. x
Good post. Mind you, it's (a) easier just to tell them to **** off and (b) it's quite funny when people from Byker call Sunderland a dump. A mate of mine working for North Tyneside Council got his van bricked while he was out landscaping there once. Locals didn't seem to want their area "improved"
Just banter mate, no one should ever seriosly take the mick out of areas that have less money or whatever. everyone knows the NE is one of the hardest places to live in England financially, don't take it to heart
Newcastle has faired ower well in finance per capita in the NE in years gone by but worry not any more. 100% of **** all is what they will be getting in the near future unless they start voting Tory. I know this as a fact because my mate Gerry Mander told me and he is very well connected with the powers that be(you can quote me on this)
Bobby brought a tear to my eye, maybe it's because I'm on the vodka too! Lve your passion thouhg fella. It does hurt when an industrial city like ours is on it's knees and has had it's heart ripped out.
I do believe that Sunderland Council have tried to run Sunderland into the ground in hope of huge grants from Europe. This had back fired massively as now Europe is bankrupt. Question is, what did they do with all the money?
Ah Whitburn, lived there for 17 years, educated at Whitburn Secondary up till 1976, before they went mad & built extensions, everyone knew everyone else, not to bad a place to live in
Born in southwick and i'll die in southwick. Is southwick a ****hole? In parts yes it is but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world
I was on my village green yesterday when a couple of French lady cyclists asked me for the local b&b. We are on the up baby!
Well the charming little hamlet of Chester on the Wear is home to the champagne Charlie lifestyles. Filet mignon, Frois gras, caviar, cucumber sandwiches and chilled Bolly form the basis of our 5 a day. Charm, history and the great Northern capital city of Durham are on our doorstep. It’s the perfect place for the cultured and discerning Mackem to reside.
