I am extremely jealous, enjoy your pints in a beer garden. I'll just have to keep myself until tomorrow :)

I think Shola is hugely under rated. He's scored 8 goals this season. Nolan has 12, and very properly is hugely respect for it. Carroll had 11 and was on his way to god status before he opted for devil status instead. Shola has had fewer starts than either of them.

Look at the stats over the years. Shola consistently scores one goal in 3 starts. Always has. Okay, the best strikers score 1 in 2, therfore Shola is not in the first rank, but he is consistently very competent. That's why every manager from Robson onwards (except Keegan) has rated him.

Does he miss chances ? Yes. Anyone ever watch a reel of the sitters Shearer missed ? There were hundreds. Good strikers get into goal scoring positions, miss quite a few and put the rest away.

Do I want a better strker for next season ? of course. Is Shola and invaluable squad member ? You bet.

I'm off to the pub very soon as well. Slipping out the back door after booking the meeting room on the other side of the building from 4:15 to half 5 :)

Lovenkrands plays well at SJP but ***** away from home. Even in the Championship when he scored roughly 15 goals only a couple were in away games.

As for Shola, he is good backup (3rd or 4th choice) in the Prem.

Good squad players like Best, but our main priority is to improve up front, and this probably means Lovenkrands will move on in the summer.

  12. How can you say with Best's goals/games ratio that he's a squad player?

6 goals in 10 games deserves a starting 11 place.

Thats a good run of form, that included a hat trick against a very poor West Ham side, he struggled in the Championship.

But you can't deny he's improved and IMO he should be 3rd choice or even starting alongside a quality striker depending on the formation we play. Yes he's struggled in the CC but remember around the time we bought him, he was in good form with Coventry, but when he came to NUFC last season he had limited chances because of Carroll and Loverman's good partnership.

Quality wise his standard is 3rd choice level, same with Ameobi and Lovenkrands.

  16. He struggled in the championship... and? He's done well and proven himself in the PL.

He's scored in 4 of his 10 pl matches. So on average, he'll score about 14-16 goals a season. That's excellent.

If he continues on and that rate, no guarantee he will. If he does that next year or gets to 10 goals at the same rate, then yes he can be classed as a first team striker and that would be more of a time to judge him on.

Don't compare him to Loverman or Shola. IMO he's better than any of our current strikers, not in a high degree but moderately he's better. He has something about him that I like. He's a hard-worker, decent pace and has a great attitude and commitment about him.
