This from that ****ty pit "Talk Sport" The midfielder has had a nightmare spell in England since his £20m move to Liverpool in 2009. A succession of injuries meant he had to wait until October 2009 to make his Reds debut, having joined that summer. But Aquilani failed to impress, with injury problems and a lack of form resulting in Liverpool ditching him from the side Since when did he have a nightmare? We bought him injured, and it took as long as it took to get him fit, there after he looked a bit tasty, and we got real glimpses of his talent. Alas he got home sick, and so off he went on loan. So I really hate such rubbish journalism like this... Every time he played for us, he did something that made me like him.
800/900 minutes in the league and... 1 goal and 4 assists if I remember. Demolished Portsmouth. Nightmare.
This is just drivel. What "spell in England"? He's had a spell on our books, but how much time has he spent playing here? Most foreigners spend more time on a day trip here than he's spent on the pitch. Journalists love to spice up their stuff with meaningless hyperbole to make it seem important, but the problem is that people who have no reason to know the truth behind the story can just swallow it whole. Most of the time you should just laugh at them, but as we've seen they can often influence public opinion in more serious cases than this.
Ronaldo was roundly condemned by fans of all persuasions, including Utd fans, for being a diving show pony in his first two seasons here. It was a media cliche then. Now they've moved on and he's a different cliche now. Aqua didn't have a good first season, being the replacement for the Godhead Alonso. The fact we only got one bid of £12m for Alonso the season before he left was never addressed by those who went overboard on blaming Rafa for his exit. "Midfield genius" going cheap and nobody notices? I don't think so. But Aqua was our best player pre-season last summer. He worked hard, something most journos find a distasteful pasttime. I remember a jounro on LFC TV saying most of the media left press conferences once they had a headline but the few who were serious would stay behind and Rafa was always happy to discuss any issue in depth. Rafa actually showed them, to their surprise, that there's very little difference between zonal and man-to-man and it comes down to a manager's personal preference. Rafa's preference got Reina three Golden Gloves, which Andy Gray never acknowledged in his clcihed rants about zonal.
That's less than 10 matches, so getting a goal and 4 assists on the way back from injury, ain't half bad!
I despise the media - they're a bunch of hypocrites who will write anything to sell a few papers or gain viewers or listeners. For example: Fabio Capello would have been slaughtered for a performance like that against France. But when good ol' Roy is does it, it's deemed as a 'spirited' performance that showed 'courage'. Not only that, the pundits on MOTD were having a go at Ukraine and Sweden, saying that they were playing boring counter attacking football. Hypocritical or what? The one that really riled me was when Rafa's father passed away and he chose to spend his time with the team at the World Club Cup. Henry Winter described this as the actions of a cold hearted man who has no emotions. In a similar situation regards Tony Pulis, Winter then went onto praise Pulis for his courage and loyalty to his team.
I dislike the way commentators are openly scathing about foreign teams, players or refs whatever, in a way they just wouldn't be to those that play in England. They know they are unlikely to face the recipients of their snide remarks so they just think they can get away with calling them whatever they want. Cowardly as well as hypocritical.
True. I have no problems with people airing their opinion no matter how controversial it may be. I just wish that their opinion is consistent. E.g. I'm an advocate of playing to entertain as opposed to doing anything to win - I constantly berate teams/people like Stoke, Tony Pulis, Sam Allardyce. However, I'll be the first to acknowledge when Liverpool play negative defensive football.
