"If Henderson got in, any Englishman not currently in the squad has to feel aggrieved. Yes, I wish I was there but I'm not," he said.

"Everyone's thinking it, I'll say it. Liverpool have [had] an horrific season and have six players in our Euro squad. What chance do we have? [The England manager should] Pick on form.

"How [Grant] Holt, [Micah] Richards, [Michael] Carrick, [Rio] Ferdinand, [Leon] Osman, [Daniel] Sturridge etc never got involved is a travesty."

Barton insists he still wants England to do well at Euro 2012, but he is convinced they are unlikely to win the tournament.

"I really hope England do well and win it, I really do. All am saying is I don't think we will," he tweeted.

"If everyone stays fit, we've got a decent 11 once [Wayne] Rooney's back.

"If any of the key players get a knock, we are done for. Three games in eight or nine days takes its toll on the body. If a few are carrying injuries from a long domestic season, it will show. Not being pessimistic, just a realist.

"I am overqualified to pass judgement on this. Not only have I played in the Premier League for 10 years but I've played with and against most of them."

Must be honest I pretty much agree with everything he's said here. This is such a non-story its unbelievable.

Nah, Del. I'm still trying to shift those dry-clean only raincoats you bought from Monkey Harris.

I don't think our own Rodney here likes these references. He never seems to respond.

Not that Rodney. Are you too young to remember another one? Scored a useful goal on 4th March 1967. Ring any bells?

I have never owned or used a blow-up doll. You seem to know a lot about them....

Club record for most goals in a season.... 9 England caps.... Mean anything to you?

I'm JOKING Rodders! God, is my sense of humour that bad? ................. Don't answer that!

I'm well aware of the great man. One of the best ever R's goals, that run and shot in off the post.

Was he the greatest or was it Stanley? Whichever was, we've never had players like those since although some have come close.

I've stuck up for Joey in the past but he is seriously beggining to do my head in. Is he really that delusional to think he should be playing for England. He was close to rubbish for most of last season and his antics on and off the field have made sure he will never be in contention ever again. I think he likes the fact that he can use his behaviour as an excuse but at the end of the day IF he was man of the match every week and scoring goals week in week out im sure the England manager would look at him. Fact is he is not! Joey stop making excuses! You are not good enough...end of!!!

He obviously hasn't seen those classic episodes of Only fools and horses, the lights are on but no one's at home springs to mind as well

Marsh certainly did. So must have Bowles. There was definitely something in the water back then.

How stupid is this guy - I have lost the will with him...get rid and get a decent midfielder in.

    Barton certainly does not Fink...

Despite my choice of user name, I'd actually choose Stanley over Rodney: fewer goals but at a higher level and, as your dad probably told you, he was a key part of our best ever team.

Really? I had you down for Marsh 100%.

Fair play mate. I got the DVD highlights of 75/76 "The greatest team never to win the League" last year and we were so unlucky to miss out. That bloody Norwich game did it for us I think.

Due to other commitments, I didn't get to games as much in the mid 70's as I did earlier (or later) so I probably saw more of Rodney play than Stan. So my choice of user name is emotional/nostalgic. Logic says Stan was better.
