Born in Gt. Yarmouth, brought up in Scratby, lived in Caister, London, Ripon, Manchester and Sydney Australia. Now back just outside Gt. Yarmouth not far from Filby.
Used to drive the Service 580 Diss to Gt. Yarmouth Bus years ago. Although Scole was by-passed, that junction was still a pain in the butt!
After a life of hustle and bustle Carra, the middle of nowhere suits me just fine , although I had just remotely considered driving over to Copenhagen for the day, but only very remotely, as Dave said, I´m needed here. Anyway, enjoy your couple of days.
I should think we were gandy, early to mid 60´s for my part, at the time of Ball, Balls, and Bowles on the teaching staff. Just had a look at this photo from 1962, couldn´t see me anywhere, but doubt that I´d recognize me anyway. http://www.thorpe-grammar-school-assn.org.uk/Pages/school-photo-1962.html
Born in Ely - first trip to CR in 72. Have followed Norwich from Germany, Bulgaria, Brunei, Saudi Arabia and South Africa with varying degrees of success. Listening to the scores on BBC World Service in the eighties was the only way to keep up. currently living in peterborough but off on my travels again next year. Must confess to a mild flirtation with Borussia Moenchengladbach in the seventies - Rainer Bonhof was my second hero, almost as good as Graham Paddon with a dead ball.
Yes indeed! I started a year after that photo, this one was from 1966. Unfortunately, I CAN see me on there. http://www.thorpe-grammar-63.org.uk/276598/_boomers/Panorama.htm
This calls for a whole new competition thread -- "Spot the gandy". And for good measure, suggestions also welcome from those who think they can recognise the young rbf (no right answers here, he can't recognise himelf!)
Bingo! - I think I have found myself on this one, amazing just how many of the staff seem familiar even today, but I can hardly put a name to any of the other pupils.
I was a CNS old boy. Grammar school full of homosexual teachers and lessons in Latin just in case the Romans ever invaded again. And you had to wear a cap even at 16. Had to buy them at Rumsey Wells shop. We hated it. Burnt them on the last day. Now they are grafted onto 16 years olds heads and you can't remove them. And I can still remember the school song Not with visions of selfish fame But with one sole absorbing aim To do our best To play the game For the Honour of the School
.........when were you at thorpe RBF. i was at wymondham college in the late 50's and thorpe moved in to share the school with us while there's was being rebuilt, if my memory is correct.
"Not with visions of selfish fame But with one sole absorbing aim To do our best To play the game For the Honour of the ... [CLUB]" Well, clearly neither PL nor Holty were educated at CNS!
