I like this piece, I'm fairly sure the BBC reaches 20m+ of those households. Glad he's been paying attention to the viewing figures, they're almost up to a quarter of the Beebs now.
Sky has the potential to reach 10m households which is of course why their current viewing figures are around 1/10th of that. Ecclestone
Will be interesting to see this weekends viewing figures. Sky had prime time liver coverage and the BBC had late night highlights. I imagine the BBC will probably win this battle to confirm what we all know, Sky F1 is still yet to pay off.
Must say that I enjoy the Sky coverage. I just wish that they had Humphries and Coulthard. Let the BBC keep the poisoned dwarf (Jordan)
Viewing figures up to the Canadian GP. Figures are only for the actual race: Australian: avg 874,000, peak 1.02 million (2011 avg 1.23 million, peak 3.18 million) Malaysian: avg 960,000, peak 1.50 million (2011 avg 3.5 million, peak 4.4 million) Chinese: Sky avg 480, 000, peak 850, 000, BBC avg 2.9 million, peak 4,1 million (2011 avg 3.3 million, peak 4.3 million) Bahrain: avg 740, 000, peak 1.6 million (2010 avg 4.84 million, peak 6.14 million) Spanish: Sky avg 510, 000, peak 1.05 million, BBC avg 3.5 million, peak 4.6 million (2011 peak 6.2 million) Monaco: Sky avg 560, 000, BBC avg 3.13 million So already in the first six races Sky are massively down on last years figures, and have been hammered in the three races that BBC have broadcast live
BBC can go bankrupt for all I care, I only watched it for the F1 and they buggered me from behind so I hope every show they sold out F1 for will go down the can and stay there. Just another ****ing rip-off of another ****ty singing contest, what next? Big-Sister?
You could say that or if you look at their estemated viewing figures for the year before the season started they are actually on target
It shows how much Jake Humphrey cares about F1 that he will give up presenting it just to stand pitch side for a few seconds for a few matches during the Euros.
I remember having a similar thought when he went to present some athletics thing (Commonwealth Games perhaps?) one or two years ago. Then the idea occurred to me that maybe his contract stipulates that he has to present whatever sporting event the Beeb tell him to, rather than having an exclusive F1 contract. I have no idea what his actual contract says, but I think it's worth bearing that possibility in mind before thinking less of him.
It is a possibility, but why would they move him to the Euros just for a bit part which they could get anyone to do? I have always had a feeling that he is just using F1 as a stepping stone for what he sees as "bigger and better" things.
Jake Humphrey should not be blamed for going where his employers send him. He has a genuine interest in F1, but like most employees, he has to do what he is told. There is a suggestion above that hints at the BBC's disinterest in F1. This is much closer to the truth and much closer to explaining Humphrey's wanderings…
Jakes role at the euros isnt that big though is it? and its only till the lazy ones in a studio in London finally travel to poland/Ukraine for the final week. I pressume he will have a bigger role at the olympics. I dont blame him, I wish i got paid to travel all over the world to watch and talk sport
