Good Morning all, Its been a long time coming, but the capture of Paddy Kenny should be completed in the next 48 hrs. This may mean the departure of Lonnergan. Good deal or bad ??? England kick off their Euro 2012 campaign this evening against the French. For those of you that are not English, who will you be supporting tonight and why. How have the rest of us managed to get the time off work? Aidan White will request a final meeting with Leeds United in a bid to clarify his future as interest in the winger’s signature grows. Representatives of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international are to push for a decision on White’s fate with his contract at Elland Road due to expire in less than three weeks’ time. Negotiations over a new deal have reached an impasse, with White unlikely to accept Leeds’ most recent proposal and United reluctant to improve their offer to him, and he is poised to push ahead with the search for a new club. There was a good article from Phil Hey in the YEP on Saturday :- Leeds United were under increasing pressure to deliver on the prospect of investment today and ease the frustration of manager Neil Warnock. The club have made no comment on the likelihood of a cash injection at Elland Road since announcing 10 days ago that talks were underway with potential investors, but they are facing calls for answers following Warnock’s return from a two-week summer break.Associates of the United boss contacted by the YEP say Warnock is deeply concerned by both the lack of signings made last month and the threat that a shortage of transfer funds poses to his plans for the summer.Leeds continued to work towards an investment deal while Warnock was away in the Caribbean but the club have given no public indication of decisive progress with an American group who were shown around Elland Road and Thorp Arch on May 24.Click here to register and have your say on the Leeds United stories and issues that matter to you The need for a fresh funding at Elland Road became apparent last month after Warnock’s attempt to sign right-back Joel Ward from Portsmouth failed. Leeds were unable to finance the £400,000 fee originally negotiated with Portsmouth’s administrators.Interest in Derby County midfielder Paul Green was also stifled, despite the Republic of Ireland international being available on a free, and the YEP understands that proposed talks between Warnock and Portsmouth’s David Norris have been delayed due to a lack of available money.Warnock made no secret of his plan to overhaul of United’s squad this summer and he warned when he became manager in February that he would only remain in charge for the 2012-13 campaign if the resources at Elland Road offered a realistic chance of promotion. In his absence during the past fortnight, another of his targets, defender Clint Hill, has taken up a new contract at Queens Park Rangers and a suggestion from goalkeeper Paddy Kenny – published on his Twitter account on Thursday – that a deal to take him from QPR is in place appears to have been premature.Warnock, meanwhile, is still to resolve the future of club captain Robert Snodgrass after offering him a new deal which would make him United’s highest earner.Snodgrass, whose current deal runs out next year, is believed to be reluctant to commit himself to new terms while so much of Warnock’s plans are unfulfilled. The Leeds United Supporters Trust (LUST) heightened the pressure on Leeds further last night by claiming to have been contacted by an intermediary of “disillusioned and disheartened” players at Elland Road. In a statement, LUST said the players concerned were “feeling undervalued and totally frustrated by the lack of ambition Leeds United are showing.”“They desperately want to be part of a Leeds United side that wins promotion to the Premier League,” the statement read.“With the current situation at the club, they cannot see how that will be possible.” Thoughts everyone???
I don't think Paddy will come until he knows if Warnock is going to be here, and I'm hoping that today we get to hear some much needed news about what the hell is going on. The silence has been defening for 2-weeks now. Rumours of Warnock walking make sense if he thinks he's been shafted.
Morning doc, it is a shame that the football league do not have sufficient powers to be able to take an internal look into the goings on at ER
Morning What would the FL be looking for, and under what jurisdiction? They only get involved once the fan has spewed its ****, or once a rule has been broken. As a private company, LUFC is not on the radar of any of the football authority organisations unless it involves the football competition itself. They would only screw things up if they did get involved anyway
I think that the football league should have the powers to ensure that a club is being run in a proper fashion, not just the owner passing due dillence
Bonjour chacun.
Morning all, Paddy Kenny is a good stopper in this league and would help Neil get a stronger hold of the dressing room. I can see why Lonergan will move to Bolton given his family situation etc, yet I do worry that we are losing a great keeper (just imagine how good he would be if we played with a defence!!). The whole situation angers me... How Ken Bates can qualify as a fit & proper person is a joke, but I doubt that anyone will investigate him unless we put the pressure on the authorities and not Ken Bates or the club. Yet why so many are keen to destroy the spirit of the club amazes me.... Don't the agents, players, chairman, LUST and posters on here realise that the negativity is contagious and is spreading at an alarming rate Might try to stop worrying about Leeds and just enjoy the Euro's & Olympics, I doubt much will happen in the few next weeks anyway....
Morning all, this will go down like a lead balloon but I'm supporting France and want them to give England a damn good thrashing. I'm half French and can't stand the likes of Terry, Rooney, Cole etc.
ñ But what is "a club being run in a proper fashion"? I don't think it is possible to accuse Bates of not running the club "in a proper fashion" as there are many different ways to run a business, and Bates has chosen one where he would say he is trying to build up the club in order that the team has a longer-term chance of succeeding. Most on here disagree that that is the right course of action for what we want to see, but there is no factual evidence that says it is the wrong way. Many claim that the off-shore accounts just brings in a secrecy and a convoluted ownership that is impossible to get to the bottom of, and therefore there must be something bad going on, including tax evasion etc etc. But these ways of running a business are perfectly legal, and evasion has to be proven by the HMRC, not by the FL. These poeple will not want to delve into the noirmal running affairs of one of their number as it sets a terrible precedence. Many claim that the money is clearly being siphoned off. Unfortunately, the "owner" can do what they want with the money generated by the business they own. It's their money. It's not illegal. However, there are accounting and tax rules that govern the removal of that money, but I don't know how that works for tax exiles. And I don't think anyone could possibly accuse Bates of gaining a competitive advantage on the field of play through overspending on players. On the contrary, the club is being held up as a model of abstinence and good financial management (just wait til they see the next year's accounts, that mood will soon change). So, I ask, exactly what grounds does the FL (and don't forget that the FL is the 92 clubs) have to investigate LUFC? re La Coruña: Galicia is where my family comes from, with Deportivo our club. And we just returned to La Liga as Campeones of La Segunda Division, while our main Galician rivals, Celta de Vigo, were also promoted.
As opposed to the likes of Ribery and Benzema who were arrested for having sex with an underage girl.
Fair point, and you can add Evra and one or two others to the list of unsavoury characters in the French team. I guess what swings it for me is the OTT patriotism and xenophobia whenever England win. Can't stand it.
Morning all, England for me please. Got to have something to cheer me up. On Kenny, really can't see the point. He's not as good as Lonners & we don't need him as back up. Of much more concern has to be the lack of incomings, & as such, whether Warnock will walk before the start of the season. Me thinks we could be in for a bit of a roller coaster week.
The other thing that nobody seems to have thought about, is the lack of rumour about our transfer listed players been looked at. Yes there's a chance Clayton will go to Bolton or Burnley but he's the best of the listed players. Nobody seems to want Billy or anyone else, and whilst these players are still on the books and on wages, its hurting the incomings if we haven't the cash. If something doesn't move the log jam soon, we'll be accepting offers for White, Snodds and Ross which means the team is foooked for the coming season and we may as well not bother going to see worse than last season. Come on Bates its about time the fans were told what the hell is going on
