After only one season the League have decided to allow 7 (as opposed to last year's 5) to be on the bench. Apparently the pressure to revert came from 'smaller' clubs because they often went into games without a back up keeper - http://www.leytonorient.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10439~2801879,00.html Personally I think this benefits the 'bigger' clubs who rotate players and can now put 'star' players on the bench rather than appear to be dropping them from the squad for any particular game. For a club like Fulham with a relatively small squad (18 or so established players plus U21s) this change probably means an extra 2 players regularly sitting on the bench rather than playing in the reserves. Can't see that this ruling is anything but unhelpful to us. And, goodness knows where they will all sit on match day.
I'm fairly sure we had 7 last season, and it was the 'Football League' i.e Chapionship, League 1 etc clubs that could only name 5.... or am I missing something, I don't quite understand that rule? Either way I don't think it affects us too much.
That's right. The rule was 5 on the bench for championship and lower. The premier league won't be affected as we remained having 7 on the bench.
