As you know, I am one of the torchbearers, but I have just found this: http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=lakshmi-mittal-5498/index.html No idea why he is carrying it, but thats two people involved with QPR now!
"Lakshmi Mittal Age 61 Carrying the Flame through The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Carrying the Flame on 26 July 2012 Lakshmi's nomination story "Let me begin by saying how excited I am to be one of the Olympic Torch bearers. After all, carrying the torch is a great honour and the closest possible direct association that someone can have with the Games, of course apart from being an athlete participating in it. As we all know, the Olympic Games are about a spirit of fair competition together with dogged determination to better oneself. This is applicable to just about everything that we do and need not necessarily be limited to the sports arena. When I think about parallels between myself and an Olympian, I believe that success in the world of business is underpinned by very similar principles of perseverance and hard work. The torch relay is an excellent embodiment of all that the Olympic Games have come symbolise - a celebration of the human spirit. Personally to me, it represents striving to be the best in whatever we do, never giving up despite the odds and a commitment to health and fitness. I hope that by carrying the torch I will be representing many other people who share these ideals with me. I also believe that by participating in this relay, I am representing the 270 thousand people around the world who are a part of the ArcelorMittal family. As a global company we are truly delighted to be associated with this global sporting event." The Mittal companies helped fund the Orbit Sculpture in the Olympic Park (aka metal monstrosity as per Sooperhoop, above!). His son, Aditya, 36, is also a torchbearer
His son is also carrying it. His sons profile says he donated to the Great Ormond Street Hospital and has done many charitable sports activities and provides disadvantaged children with tickets to certain arts events.
I think his link is a worthy one unlike some of the 'slebs' that are devaluing the spirit of the torch, Jedward for f*cks sake...
That is ridiculous. It is meant to be for deserving people. What exactly have they done but annoy millions with their terrible 'performances'
The papers reported yesterday that a seventeen year old hurdler from Stafford was suddenly bumped off his stint at carrying a burning Limpik stick in favour of a couple of 40-something businessmen whose companies happened to have provided sponsorship. Apparently, despite the lad having no criminal record or history of trouble, he was told that he had failed "background checks". One can only presume that the background check that he failed was the one that looked into how much money he had put into the organisers' coffers. I sincerely hope nobody rains on your parade, Judo. This clearly means something to you.
Judo. I read somewhere on here that someone on here was carrying the torch and it's you! Many congratulations to you. I'm sure it's well deserved. As it can be followed live on the BBC website can you tell us exactly when you'e carrying. Love to watch and cheer - and I hope - see a few local 606ers cheering you on.
Thanks mate, I still cant really believe it, and I dont think I will until the day! As Uber said, I hope something like that doesnt happen to me! I am running in the East Grinstead leg on Tuesday 17th July (roughly between 10 and 11am). Here is a link to my profile and also the BBC internet site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=toine-hodgkiss-3484/index.html
