Just a quick note. This trip has been amazing for a number of reasons. Went out with some old mates last night and it was as if I had never left. Now I'm off to give a paper at the British Museum. I am worried because I'm feeling quite relaxed, even though I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to say. Oh well! The worst that can happen is that it will be a disaster, then I can go home. No one is going to take much notice one way or the other.

Morning all from a very soggy rural France. Looks as if all outside activities will be on hold today.:(

Happy Birthday BB. Trust that you are not feeling your age too much.<ok><cheers>

Hope all goes well for you NZ. I wonder what the subject of your learned discourse will be? It is always good to meet up with old friends. My infrequent trips over usually include a meeting with some, and yes you are right, you can feel that the conversation has been unbroken by miles and time.

Hope that everyone has a good day with something to make you smile.;)

3.36am - night night time?? The sun has been been up for at least 20 minutes at that time up here! Probably even longer in AK land.

Thanks for that ofh - had dinner out with the family last night in a local pub, the first time I'd been there since a new, English landlord took over. A nice surprise to see that he brought some real ale with him & a couple of pints of Abbots went down well.

    Morning all

A good party last night. Thought I'd wake up gently by watching recording of the Germay/Portugal game. Not much in it to keep one awake sadly...

Simple really, they're no good with numbers - given the number of times my Chinese takeaway bears no resemblance to the numbers I ordered from the menu...........

Morning all. I go home today. I get home on Wednesday lunchtime. I think the paper went ok. No one booed and they laughed at some of my jokes. I got surrounded by attractive female students at the end of it, which is always a bit unnerving - that's how Mrs NZ got me!

I can now get back to the serious business of following WFC. I feel I have neglected that part of my life in the last week. I don't even know who owns the club.

I read CI was gone so is Troy really on his own now?

Morning all, after yesterday it is good to report that it is not raining. ;)

As an energy saving measure our street lights go out at 10.00pm which means that at this time of the year they do not come on at all.

Coffee first I think, then try to get on with some jobs, but the sky does not look as though it quite knows what to do next.:(

Morning all - hammering down when I left bandit country and still pouring down in West West London 4 hours later! Apparently it's going to be very hot where England are playing tonight, so the excuses are starting already. I see that the BBC has got an extended team abroad again - funny how Nicky Campbell can normally only work 3 days a week on 5-Live, but when there is a big sporing event he can fly out and spend weeks on it. Oh well, at least he is not likely to be there very long!

Afternoon all from a sunny Jersey. Have just had my accounting technician tax exam. Some of seemed too easy, so I've either passed with a brilliant mark or completely messed it up. Problem was that the company I did the course through had the preparation for us basing it on a 3 hour exam but it was 2 hours long. Oh, and pie has had a GCSE Maths exam today.

Yesterday Reykjavík was hotter than São Paulo for a few hours. We had 12C and they had 7C.

Today Akureyri is very grey and 5C. The veðurstofa said 11C and sun.

Was 1:1 a good result for England and will they take points from Úkraína and Sveden or disappear?

    Morning all,

Thanks for the coffee ak. Showers forecast for today, but I am off to visit a chateau and have lunch out. We are going to be given a tour by a member of the French aristocracy. They still exist and guard their titles with honour.

I read this morning that Sarko has ten bodyguards which cost the country €700,000 pa.
