Brilliant game today, he's had the whole dutch team in his pocket all game Hope i didn't speak too soon....
Not sure if I want him to play so well with rumours of Real Madrid putting in an £18 million bid for him
If he could stay fit for a whole season, he would be rated as one of the best defenders in the league. Unfortunately, I don't see him ever getting a dozen games in a row before injury. There was statistic last season when he played his eighth or ninth game in a row, it was the first time he had managed it in a Liverpool shirt.!!!
Since I have not seen a lot of them as a pairing (nor much of Kjaer on his own) I'll reserve judgement, at least until the group games are over. Nothing like games against Holland, Germany and Portugal to test a centre back pairing. They seemed a very good pairing today
I think Kjaer is on loan at Roma but not especially happy there, also been on the radar of a few top clubs for a while so,.. yeah, see how the group games go..
Agger is a class player no question, would be one of our few genuine world class players but for his injury record! Very good reader of the game, comfortable on the ball and a leader, superb player. Just question whether you could really build a defence around him or ever think of him as part of the spine because of his tendency to break down. If you could get him playing 32-34 games a season he would be in the top three cb in the country for me!
I consider him world class, but not part of the spine of the team. He's a player that's a luxury and as such we need to keep him, play him when fit and hope for his injuries to clear up quick. On his day he's a beast, composed 100 percent of the time and knows what to do with the ball, without the ball, in the box, outside of the box, tracking back, tracking forward, etc. Not many defenders have his skill. Unfortunately he will be injured a lot, but he's worth keeping for the partnerships he's making with Skrtel and in the future Coates.
The problem with a defender being so injury prone is consistency. A defence should play week in week out to effective work as a unit. Bringing a player in and out depending on when he is fit is disruptive.
Wouldnt sign Kjaer because we already have Skrtel who works well with Agger, should address other areas first, CB isnt much of a worry as Coates is decent, Kelly might move in soon, and Carra can still do a job as cover EDIT: if Agger gets injured long term next season do you think it would be a good idea to play Kelly with Skrtel at CB (assuming Johnson and Enrique are fit)? I reckon it would be a good idea
Nothing less than expected! He was very good, as were the whole team. Looking worrying for the Dutch.
Holland v Germany Wednesday evening. With their history and the importance of the game this is a 'must watch'
Kjaer is poor at club level and being passed around different clubs. We all wanted him when we still had Rafa, and he disappeared, for a reason.
Agree with this. See how he looks throughout the tournament. Looks a good prospect - still only 23, I think. Although, we do seem to have a lot of centre backs at the moment with Wilson, Skrtel, Agger, Coates, Carragher and Kelly (I know he currently deputizes as right-back but so did/does Caragher). Still Kjaer would be a very good addition. I really think a right winger and a striker are our two main concerns for next season. Right wing is looking very spartan, especially with Kuyt leaving. Some sources (not good ones) have linked us with A. Johnson. I'd be happy with that, but can't see it happening.
I would prefer to see Kelly as 1st choice replacement for Skrtel/Agger to be honest, I just have a feeling that Kelly will become a top, top CB and if he does he could be the future for many years. He is more likely to stick around than Coates too so thats another reason I would have him in first, Coates then will have a little more time to adjust gradually to the league.
