I read in a newspaper that for a while the colour of city's strip was the highest hit topic on twitter, something like 100,00 mentions an hour. Now I know we are the famous Cardiff City but fekking hell, I didn't know people were that concerned about us. But now all the fuss has died a bit can we get back to footie? First question is how much lolly had MM got for new players? How much is he saving from the ones he has moved on? Are there any others we think should also move on? And of course, who are we in for, who would we like within reason (I don't think Messi is coming after all!) and who are we likely to have a good chance of getting? People say it takes a long time because we have to wait for the Prem clubs to settle on their squads to see who is free but we need new blood now to do the full pre-season. I think our new situation finacnially might encourage Prem fringe players who may previously have said no, so what can we expect. I just want some news, or gossip, anything will do. Its WEEKS till the footie starts again.
morning XS. It is a bit of a dead time, compounded by the Euros. MMs statement was 10 players with a mixture of youth and experience. The former may be more easily sorted than the latter. Two thirds of the 10 (not literally) would probably not be dependant on prem teams decisions, and one or two may be prem 'cast offs'. QPR may have a player or two we'd be interested in (not Bothroyd necessarily) that don't feature in Sparky's plans, will Gary O'Neil be in Sam's plans given his midfield options? We've been linked with a few lower league players with experience like Keogh, or overseas players like Sigurdarson. Similalry, the young guns may come from lower league, who will be looking to do their selling early to allow them to buy. That may leave 2-3 players that we can't get yet. Key players, yes, but not the bulk of the signings. That would allow pre-season to be meaningful with the bulk of the squad in place. If a couple get integrated later and don't play in the first few games, so be it. If we started the season with the team that ended the last one it wouldn't be the end of the world. They'd have a full pre-season together and be more experience than this time last year. Two wide players and a striker would be my choice for the first 3 signings. The rest could follow later. 2-3 of the signings are likely to be youngsters that wouldn't get much game time this season anyway. Hoping I'm looking at this realistically rather than too optomistically. The first 7 figure signing will show the intent of the Malaysians. Perhaps they've identified some likely targets that don't like playing in blue. That could be the real reason behind the kit change. Disappointng that we won't be getting Van Persie as his dad says he won't play for another British club.
"Two wide players and a striker would be my choice for the first 3 signings. The rest could follow later. 2-3 of the signings are likely to be youngsters that wouldn't get much game time this season anyway." - Definitely, there for all to see last season. In fact, with the right signings up front and out wide you wouldn't need to do much else as other problems (like being under constant pressure because we had no outlet) would disappear.
I've just read on Twitter that there's been a possible sighting of Ricardo Fuller at the CCS today. Could be interesting...
Do we want somebody that old? I know his experience counts for a lot, but are we looking for slightly younger players?
He'd give us something different, being the sort of player who'd unsettle defenders allowing Miller / Whitts / Mason / Earnien even plenty of chances. Even if he was an impact player or started infrequently he'd be worth a punt. A free transfer but would likely demand a hefty salary. He's been here before so fits the experienced pro category. Not massively prolific and at 6' 3", taller than I thought. Could teach Rudy a few things. Could be a good foil for our other strikers.
I think we should prepare for our first Malaysian or even Chinese signing as part of the new marketing stategy. Sorry! Should read second Chinese City player. Anyone remember the first?
its clear that mackay will now get alot of money to spend on players..... players like bothroyd i wouldnt bother with because they'll be on silly money and he's proven beyond doubt that he'd be useless in the pL if we got promoted. fullers attitude stinks so wouldnt bother with him either. players in the mould of turner, mason, gunnarsson please.
